New Yorkers Call Iran

The Enough Fear campaign has come to New York, and earlier today New Yorkers and Iranians were speaking to each other at City Hall on red vintage phones the organization set up.

The project is part of an effort to connect citizens of both countries who "say no to war," and the goal is to create a "people to people diplomacy" link between the two countries. Nick Jehlen, the co-founder, said, "Our two governments won't talk to each other so we decided to take it into our own hands, to get to know each other and begin to work for peace. It's a lot harder to go to war against people you know."

I hope the New Yorkers asked the Iranians why their countrymen elected such a batshit insane leader.

Then again, I guess the Iranians could ask the New Yorkers the same thing.

Sounds like a good conversation.

Ahmenadjad or however you spell it is just the "young" face of the Ayatolla. Like Ayatolla 2.0.

It's sad cause there's a lot of really progressive art, mainly movies and books, that are coming out of Iran which shows a populace that desires certain liberal freedoms which they do not now have.

ever heard of false promises? i thought its something you would learn after 8 years with our batshit of a leader.

Does GW Bush represent the Attitudes of all Americans?

I Bet Iran's Officials don't either...

You guys are right: Bush and Ahmenadjad are just like each other! Why just the other day my sister in DC attended the weekly POTUS-ordered execution of gays for being gay, and my girlfriend narrowly averted a beating at the hands of Federal Fashion Police for immodest dress!

That's right, TSOL.

And then, when your sister called her friend to tell her about how rad it was, the NSA listened to the call. When your sister's friend (who lives in England) e-mailed her friend in Turkey to tell her about it, the NSA read that, too, because they routed the e-mail packets via the United States with that sole purpose in mind, regardless of the fact that it was completely technologically unnecessary for the transmission of packets.

If you're not careful, in another week your sister will be in Guantanamo. She won't know why, and she'll have to sit there wondering for 10 years, because Habeas Corpus no longer exists for US citizens.

Guess she should have been more careful about her dirty English cum Turkish friends.

"Hello?"

"Dirka dirka."

Ahmadinejad has no executive power over the government or iranian military.

He can't "push the button".

Nyorker: Greetings! Death to Iran! God Bless America!
Iranian: Greetings! Death to America! Allahu Akhbar!

Click.

^Streamwise, just a little language lesson, the iranians do not speak arabic, they speak farsi.

"dirka dirka"?
"farce-y"?

i am appalled. you are just as ignorant and hopeless as your leader.

Oy. I'm so happy that people can have an intelligent discussion about matters of national and international importance. Oh wait a minute...

BTW, I saw "Taxi to the Dark Side" last night at an ACLU screening. What we done is only a slight notch below killing gays by hanging or beating women because they have shown too much hair. So, when you get on your soapbox, TSOL, it's best to be well informed lest you slide off and hurt yourself.

Good post TSOL. Great display of moral equivalence here. Listening to phone conversations of suspected terrorists is far worse than stonings & public hangings.
