THEATER: As you surely know by now, Under the Radar ends this weekend. Most of the shows take place at the Public Theater, but one bright blip on the screen is found uptown, where the acclaimed Classical Theater of Harlem is presenting “a radical re-envisioning” of Trojan Women by Euripides. “Set in the imagined wreckage of Penn Station, the show integrates testimony from survivors of recent civil wars in Sierra Leone and Liberia and questions: if there is truth in the Greek concept of tragedy, in which cycles of order are governed by fate, then doesn't it stand to reason that the catastrophic disaster always happening somewhere else will some day happen here?” Uptown Flavor has a good review. – John Del Signore

THEATER: The acclaimed Italian company Teatro Del Carretto is in town until the end of next week with their adults-only production of Pinocchio. Renowned for their rich theatricality, which blends spoken word, movement, puppetry, masks, shadows, and sound effects with fantastic tales, the ensemble performs only in Italian but selects familiar stories that transcend the language barrier. Here they treat Pinocchio as an “enchantingly dark, surreal adult tale of a wooden puppet who becomes an adventuresome real man in a world full of very real dangers.” Daniel Kelley calls it “alternately hilarious and horrifying, with an ensemble that is so in tune and energetic as to leave you breathless.” – John Del Signore

They invite you into their world of "boozy camaraderie, and tales of the assorted noble lowlifes, space cadets, and other crazies that populate the parallel universe version of New Orleans nightlife, far off the beaten tourist path."
