Crash the Car, Leave the Child
Of course police chases are bad ideas, but a worse idea might be fleeing the crash and leaving your 2-year-old in the car. Yet this is exactly what a Roosevelt man did in Hempstead last night.
The Hempstead police say that a village police detective tried to stop a 2007 Nissan Altima for a traffic violation. But the car refused to stop, so the police followed the car (and befitting a suburban car chase, additional police cars joined in) until it crashed minutes later. The driver then got out and tried to run away, but he was caught.
When the police got the Altima, they found a 2-year-old in a car seat. The toddler wasn't injured, but he was taken to the hospital for observation. The driver of the car the Altima crashed into suffered minor injuries. And the Altima's 27-year-old driver was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and DUI.

Child services should just take the kid away permanently. Obviously the father has no paternal feelings -- who leaves their kid behind at a crash site?
Roosevelt = the unwiped, post-diarrahea bung hole of Long Island. A fact known to all Howard Stern listeners, of course.
leopard print baby carseats. tells you all you need to know about these people.
@ babyhitler. The child in the photo is a girl. The child in this story appears to be a boy.
I see. So in a few years from now when this child starves to death, lights the house on fire while his father runs to the bodega to get some more beer, or drowns in a bathtub, local officials will come forward saying, "The system has failed us." And mention the above crime.
I agree with Dirk. Remove this child from this man's care permanently.
At least he knew what to leave behind. Zing!
I dislike babies. They never did nothin' for nobody.
Just another day for Britney Spears.
ha ha ha ha ha ha ha......
This guy is a Darwin Award nominee.
