Woman Found Beaten to Death in East Harlem Apartment

2008_01_womaneh.jpgThe police are investigating the murder of a 69-year-old woman in her apartment at 2400 Second Avenue. Helen Abbot's body was found by her daughter on Sunday afternoon, after she hadn't been heard from in two days. A medical examiner determined that she was strangled, stabbed and beaten to death.

Abbot had lived in her Wagner Houses apartment for 35 years. Police suspect that Abbot knew her killer, as her door was unlocked. Detectives have been handing out flyers asking for help. One neighbor told WABC 7, "Whoever did it, they gonna get em. So you might as well turn yourself in, because you're going to get caught. She was too nice. She didn't deserve that."

The police are reviewing surveillance tapes in hopes of clues.

Strangled, stabbed and beaten to death no less. A very sad crime indeed. RIP Helen Abbot. Hope they find the animal(s) who did this fast.
