Pencil This In

FOOD: Trestle on Tenth, the “homey joins hearty” Swiss-inflected restaurant that takes its name from its proximity to the High Line and the avenue where it’s found, kicks off a special five-night series called “metzgete.” The Swiss tradition loosely translates to “butchers affair” and arises from the practice of salvaging every scrap of pig after the winter slaughter – “especially those parts that would or could not be dried, smoked or pickled for later consumption.” The $24 Trestle plate will include everything from braised belly to homemade bratwurst to liver and blood sausages. – John Del Signore

5:30pm // 242 Tenth Avenue @ 24th Street [212-645-5659] // $24

READING: If you missed out on last week's reading of Brooklyn Was Mine, come catch the latest one tonight. This one features contributers Emily Barton, Darcey Steinke and Alexandra Styron. More on the anthology here.

7pm // BookCourt [163 Court St] // Free

THEATER: Brazilian writer and performer Michel Melamed’s Regurgitophagy was funded in part by a research grant he used to fine tune a technology that captures every reaction from the audience (laughter, applause, coughs, etc.) with microphones and transforms them into electric shocks applied to his body. (Sounds like Nelson Muntz’s kind of show.) A long-running hit all over Brazil, O Globo called Regurgitophagy "intelligent, painful, scary, and many times, funny." More than just literal shock theater, Melamed is out to eviscerate a culture “that hammers us with torrents of excess information, short-circuiting cultural assimilation.” Presented as part of Under the Radar. – John Del Signore

7pm // The Public Theater [425 Lafayette St] // Tickets cost $15.

200801icestorm.jpgMOVIE: Catch GMA sweetheart Katie Holmes, and Joan Allen in one of her many roles as an oppressed housewife. Tonight they both shine in the 1997 Ang Lee drama The Ice Storm which will screen as part of the Film Society at Lincoln Center's "Young Friends of Film" series. Key parties, New Canaan and electrocution...this one has it all! After the screening there will be a reception with hors d'ouvres and open bar.

7:30pm // Film Society of Lincoln Center, Walter Reade Theater [165 W 65th St] // $25

EVENT: Union Hall's Secret Science Club and Public Agenda present a Global Warming discussion group tonight, that they dub "a mixer". It's not listed on their site, and this is all the info Union Hall has up, but if you want to talk "green" this evening, this is surely the place to be.

7:30pm // Union Hall [702 Union St, Park Slope] // Free

MUSIC: We highly recommend checking out today's interviewee, Kimya Dawson, for a free show at Sound Fix tonight (8pm). After that take a short journey over to Pete's Candy Store for a mellow night of singer-songwritery goodness. Tonight's bill includes Kate Sweeney and Ali Eskandarian.

9pm // Pete's Candy Store [709 Lorimer St, Brooklyn] // Free
