Coachella East?

200801coachellaeast.jpgGoldenvoice concerts, the people who bring the West Coast Coachella each year, are now planning a similar concert for us East Coasters. And it's set to be right in our very own backyard. Sort of.

We're told the event will happen at an outdoor space that we are not allowed to disclose at this time, but we will say it's in Sopranos territory (and not Vineland). We hear you may just be able to reach this spot from Manhattan via water taxi, which if true would be very convenient.

When we requested further information about the event, we were denied. These concert promoters can be so secretive! We'll update when we know more.

UPDATE: If Billboard can post the location, so can we. The event will be at Liberty State Park.

not sure if anyone knows about this site, but thought i'd share it:

While it's not frequent, some nights in the desert can get really chilly. I'd probably look for the 2008 roster in a few weeks, it's definitely on!

Hmmm...having gone to Coachella twice (2004 & 2005), I agree, the whole point is to fly to LA and drive into the desert, camp for three days, and bake. (I'm not sure about slyseekr's comments about "freezing" while camping, it was so freaking hot!) But now that I'm living on the East Coast, I will check out the details...are they still having the normal Coachella in Indio? If there are 2 festivals, could the lineups be as amazing? The trek was worth it for Radiohead, the Pixies, The Cure, Bauhaus, New Order, etc...

    lame. No camping.

As a former West Coaster, what makes Coachella is the desert and the Palm Trees... Very intersted to check out Coachella East...

Watch out for goose poop -- as someone who tried to play Frisbee there once, I can attest that those geese don't mess around.

I saw Radiohead at Liberty State Park a few years back and it was great. Living in Hoboken, I'm definitely going to see this festie. Unless the bands are horrible...

This would totally make up for the Field Day Festival fiasco that ended up in the glamorous Meadowlands.

    Isn't that in New Jersey...?

Coachella has never really registered for me because it's far far away, but reading up on them, they've had some pretty serious lineups even as far back as the first one in 1999.

I'd be really impressed if they could punch a festival out this year!

It would be so much better than a Coachella too, since the Indio festival usually requires a grueling 3-day commitment of camping in the freezing cold (unless you plan way ahead or are willing to drive an hour to the area each day).

    I'm excited!
