Girl Scouts Think Maybe You Should Go For Their Low-Cal Cookies

011408CinnaSpin.jpgAfter 81 years spent fattening us up with their many irresistible cookie varieties, the Girl Scout organization is dropping some not-so-subtle hints that perhaps keeping a dozen boxes of Samoas in our locked desk drawer isn’t the healthiest way to make it through the winter. So for the first time they’ll be peddling sugar-free chocolate chip cookies and another low calorie cookie option: Cinna-Spins™. (Pictured.)

Each carton of Cinna-Spins™ will contain five 100 calorie packs of the “crispy cinnamon swirls”, but Fit Sugar warns that not all scouts will have them for sale. (Try their website.) Incidentally, has anyone ever bought these things from an actual, verifiable Girl Scout? We've always gotten our hook-up from one of our co-workers. Of course they do have a myspace page, but do these kids actually get out and pound the pavement anymore? Or do Mommy and Daddy do all the legwork these days?

Those cookies are already available. I bought a few boxes at a kiosk at Roosevelt Field about 2 weeks ago.

The kiosk was staffed by uniformed Girl Scouts and troop leaders/parents/etc.

I ordered a box of the Sugar Free Chocolate Cookies. The verdict: Good, if you like the taste and texture of sawdust.

Best time to sell girl scout cookies (or any other food item for fundraising) was always on a Sunday when guys were home watching football... Of course, that was when you pounded the pavement yourself. I don't think my parents ever took an order form to work for me.

They don't go door to door anymore because of safety, but the girls still do the booth sales with troop leader or parent supervision.

I always get my fix from real, live girl scouts who set up a table in the lobby of the building I work in. They always run out of the good stuff pretty quickly. Don't know about these low calorie ones though. It's best just to get some Samoas & Thin Mints and eat only cookies for the next 2 days.

Those cookies are poison. Yuck. Full of bad stuff, and even the sugar free ones can't be good for you, if they're full of artificial sweetener.

Just keep a jar of sugar in your desk drawer with a spoon. It's healthier.

I've had to resort to ordering off eBay in recent years, as I never seem to run into any Girl Scouts at the correct times. Yes, I keep a stash of Samoas in the freezer...

Get friends with kids ...and they will hunt you down to sell you cookies

MMMmmmmmmmmmmmm.........Thin Mints.
