The Sky Commuter

200801futurecar.jpgWith all this talk about futuristic transportation, we have yet seen a new vehicle to fit in with the aerotropolis or belt train...until now! There's one day left on an eBay auction for "The last Concept Sky Commuter aircraft in Existence," and it can all be yours for $49,000 (though that price will likely go up as the bidding nears an end).

The seller reports on a sad tale of a futuristic car that was never meant to be. "The design and engineering was created by Boeing engineers in Arlington, Washington. Some 60 investors and well over $6,000.000.00 in R&D and production yielded only (3) concept test ships before the plant was shut down." The others were destroyed and this is the only one to remain.

In the description we find out that it was not only the sky, but the sea as well, and would have the ability to vertically take off from just about anywhere. A good fit for the aerotropolis, but could you imagine Manhattan's skyline with these Jetsons-style cars floating about?

Lay off the staff now. They work hard plagiarizing, or OK paraphrasing material from sites like the NYT City Room and probably only get paid with free coffee and t-shirts from, you guessed it, Neighborhoodies!

No credit for BoingBoing today? If you're gonna steal material you should at least find something interesting or controversial like the map thingy.
