Last Night's Action: They Needed That!

2006_10_srangerslogo.jpg

  • Rangers 4 Montreal 1: The Rangers finally had a game they could feel good about, thrashing the Canadiens easily at the Garden Saturday night. New York jumped out to an early lead after Chris Drury made the defensive play, cleared the puck and then slipped a backhand into the net off of the pretty feed from Hossa. Martin Straka scored later in the first to make it 2-0.

New York doubled that lead in the second period thanks to some great work from the Dawes-Dubinsky-Prucha line. Prucha and Dawes got the goals and two points for their efforts, but Dubinsky had a wonderful game as well. Lundqvist lost the shutout in the third, but Montreal never seriously threatened and the Rangers earned two huge points.

  • Devils 3 Buffalo 2 (Shootout): The Devils battled back for a big win after falling behind 2-0. Daniel Paille scored just 58 seconds into the game and then again midway through the first. But, New Jersey closed to within one after a Paul Martin goal and tied it up with just over a minute remaining in regulation. Neither team could score in OT, so the game went to a shootout where Zach Parise and Patirk Elias scored to give New Jersey the victory.
