January Thunder

nws_ir_011108.jpgWere you rudely awakened by a clap of thunder early this morning? We heard one at 2:49 a.m. and again around six and seven. Gothamist is going to be a grumpy worker bee today! Yes, we were treated to a rare January thunderstorm last night. Showers and possibly another thundershower or two will continue until the early afternoon.

A storm currently over Michigan is going to drag a warm front and then a cold front across the region today. The warm front should arrive any time now, bringing with it temperatures in the mid-50s and a strong southerly breeze. The cold front trails by a few hours but should be here by mid-afternoon. The sky will clear as drier air arrives behind the front. Tomorrow will be mostly sunny but, for the first time in a week, the temperature won't reach 50 degrees.

The cooling continues on Sunday. By Monday our high should be back to the more seasonable low-40s and we may see a rain/snow mix. Climatologically, next week is the coldest week of winter.
That won't be the case this year, but at least it will be January-like weather.
