Early yesterday morning a 32-year old man was shot and killed outside of Stereo, a so-called hotspot and celeb-touted club at 512 W 29th Street. The dispute leading up to the shooting began inside, but was eventually taken to the street, where Queens resident Brione Schneider was shot and was later pronounced dead at St. Vincent's Hospital. He was the father of a 6-year old boy, managed a Finish Line sports in Brooklyn and was described by his mother as "a very laid-back guy who was about going to work and taking care of his son...[he] was never a problem."
Schneider was with his brother and cousin, but no arrests have been made yet and they are reviewing surveillance tapes for clues. The NY Sun reports that "the three men had gotten into a scuffle on the dance floor, "and had "left the club and were walking west when the shooting occurred, at about 3:45 a.m." The Daily News reports that a club employee saw Schneider have "words" with another man in the club, and once outside the other man (at this point in a car) shot Schneider in the back.
The Daily News (who have a chart tracking violent crimes in the area back to 2006) point out that "Stereo was among a handful of West Side clubs the NYPD’s club enforcement unit wanted a judge to close in 2006." The others included Crobar, Home and Sol, all targeted because they were thought to harbor criminal activity and serve to minors. The abduction, rape and killing of 18-year old Jennifer Moore began nearby with a night out at Guest House on W 27th Street. As for Stereo, it was shuttered for 42 days last year after serving minors, and was only reopened on December 5th.

New day. New statistic.

I want to read about Union Hall being shutdown after a gun fight at an Andrew Bird show.
Lot of dead black guys in clubland. what happened to fist fights?
why are we (law abiding residents) putting up with this?
maybe if our mayor wasn't so busy with non-essential business of late, he might have time to run our fair city.
and while we are on the subject of doing the "people's business," the same message applies to our junior senator: how about doing your job for a change?
Ever notice this never happens at gay clubs? Just askin'.
What is up with these "men" that they can't handle the fact that some woman wants to hang out with someone other than them? Oh, that's right, it is their pride that is hurt. Poor Babies. I look forward to their deposition at trial that says that their feeling were hurt and maybe they had a little case of blue balls. God this is lame.
Really, does this suprise anyone. Think about it. These 'mega clubs' are basically violent incidents waiting to happen. You get a bunch of meatheads, everyone is drunk, doing blow in the bathrooms, posturing to show how much money they have and have much 'tail' they can pull in front of their friends. Violence is the natural outcome of these ingredients.

STEREO IS AWFUL. if this didnt convince you please dont go there. my brother's girlfriend is into that whole stupid club scene and i was out with her one night and she wanted to go there so i said what the hell let's go. its terrible. just the worst kind of people and the worst kind of place. i accidentally bumped into some huge roid-head and he got in my face (im a small woman, 5'3 and 130-135lbs) and starter threatening me. it was overcrowded and the music was horrible. all this for a 20 dollar cover charge and 15 dollar drinks that are teeny-tiny. ugh, i hate these kinds of places. reminded me why i don't usually frequent them. i could care less what "x" celebrity says about it, it blows.
i avoid 19th ave like the plague... it used to be good, not so much anymore.
I knew Brione personally and unfortunately people are more concerned with the club than the person. He was a family man and a good person...not just some guy at a club who started trouble. This is a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. God bless his family and friends through this difficult time.
They took away our shining star. The relationship he created with the people he knew was sooo deep and loving that you felt the geniuity of Brione. Tears can't even tell the pain and hurt man... I love you and miss you Brione.
"I was the Golden Child at Foot Locker! I sold 17 dusty insoles in one day!"
Read more about Brione who some say was being a peacekeeper that night:
