Extra, Extra

  • Today on the Gothamist Newsmap: a pedestrian struck on Autumn and Liberty Aves. in Brooklyn, a suspicious fire on Wallace Ave. and Pelham Parkway in the Bronx, and a carjacking on 85th St. in the Bronx.
  • Lawyers for Ted Corliss continue to argue for charges to be dismissed against their client, who attempted to jump off the Empire State Building, even after the State Supreme Court ruled that jumping off tall buildings was a form of free speech. Corliss is currently experimenting with jumping out of airplanes and landing without a parachute.
  • I'm still trying to figure out how to parlay my cardboard box residence to this Internet entrepreneur's comfortable domicile. Next week in Extra, Extra: drunk guys hurting themselves and barely legal girls making out.
  • PSA: 7 Line service will be out of commission starting this upcoming Saturday. Alternate service will be available on the LIRR, unless of course, Amtrak workers go on strike, in which case one can take the subwa . . .nevermind.
  • 22-year-old homeless man Emannuel Polanco pleaded guilty to the stabbing of his host David Higgins and the baseball bat beating of Higgins' mother, after Higgins came home to find Polanco looting his apartment.
  • Crocheted TV dinner with an unhappy salisbury steak about to be eaten. One can floss his or her teeth with the leftovers?
  • At $20 a piece the 'Dead Bug Burial Kit' might see pricey for some people. For those planning a roach mass extermination, live and let die may be a more budget-minded option.
  • The legal charges against Anthony Marshall are proving too expensive to challenge, when challenged by the civil courts' offices and deep-pocketed opponents.

People bitch about everything. Now that the MTA has money to fix shit (even though they think they don't have it...or it's leaking somewhere *cough*), let them fix it. No matter how crappy they are, at least let them try to uncrappify the system.

I still don't see why they don't do service changes more often on major lines to do repairs. There's a reason why trains in Japan run so smoothly that you really can't feel the rails...they're repaired every frackin night!! Of course the fares are higher, but you get the point.
