My dad remembers when people bitched about the renovation of Bryant Park, and look where it is now? I remember, not too long ago, when people were bitching about the renovations to Madison Square park. Now it's done and it looks Great! Same goes for Union Square...
It's all called progress and it's good they're doing Washington Square now before it becomes of total shit hole (it hasn't been bad in years and I liked what was there, but it needed work...
In regards to revonating Washington Square, I hope they get rid of the unemployed ghetto weed dealers while they're at it.
Unemployed weed dealer is an oxymoron. If only every person I encountered in retail hustled as hard as the average drug dealer I've seen working his trade, shopping for anything would be a tolerable experience.
It all has to do with the going salaries offered by the different establishments. Plus the quality of clientele.
You would rather use the union weed dealers? You know, they use a surcharge.
I don't want to get off on the park thing again, but if they just left the damn fountain where it was this would actually be a good thing. edEx makes a point about Bryant Park, and WSP could go that way, or it could go the way of City Hall Park, which is pretty and well maintained and completely sterile and half-forbidden.
Now, onto more important matters... are the folks from Staten Island upset that their borough stinks of trash, or are they upset that someone pointed out on national TV?
Let's be fair:
The Fresh Kills landfill was forced onto Staten Island against the wishes of the borough's residents and representatives in the 1940s. The landfill ruined one of the nicest natural areas left within city limits and continues to pollute the air, land, and water around it with toxic chemicals.
By the way, Fresh Kills stinks because YOUR garbage stinks.
Also because Staten Island is full of wannabe mafia jerks.
It's not just MY garbage. EVERYBODY'S garbage stinks.
I think the park really needs a refurb no question, but moving the fountain seems a tad wasteful. Sure it would be nice to have it line of sight with the McKim Mead and White Arch (which is one of the most gorgeous pieces of architecture in the whole city by the by), but that isn't like moving a fence.
They're not weed dealers, they're FAKE weed dealers. I learned that when I was about 12.
