The Peking is Missing! Sort of

We got a tip today saying that The Peking had gone missing from the South Street Seaport. The 1911 four-masted barque is part of the fleet owned by the South Street Seaport Museum...and it's huge, so it's sort of tough to misplace.

At first we thought: Pirates? Ghost ship? But then the nice young man at the museum's front desk told us it was a planned removal. The boat was towed out this morning for an inspection and it's currently docked in Brooklyn. It will be back (and open to the public) on the 14th of the month. Phew!

If you've never been on board, the exhibit gives "a good impression of what life on an old sailing cargo ship was like. The gallery is full of photographs taken while the Peking was in service and there are also excerpts from the logs of the captain and crew with details about daily life on board the ship." Apparently it was never taken by pirates back then either.
