  • Today on the Gothamist Newsmap: smoke inhalation victims at Centre and White Sts. in Manhattan, a shooting on Neptune Ave. in Brooklyn, and a truck vs. overpass at 155th St. and South Rd. in Queens.
  • Design firm EDAW was chosen to plan the Steeplechase Plaza for a now-vacant lot near the Coney Island boardwalk. The development beneath the Parachute Jump may include a water park and a platform for viewing Cyclones minor league baseball games.
  • A large brokerage firm in Williamsburg, Brooklyn is saying the Corcoran Group's report claiming an 8% increase in average condo prices in the neighborhood during 2007 is incorrect. Aptsandlofts.com says that it's seen a 10-12% retreat in condo prices since the market's peak in early 2006.
  • The fire that killed an FDNY lieutenant in Brooklyn yesterday was apparently started by a six-year-old who ignited packaging from a toy car on the stove his family was using to heat its apartment. Afraid he would get in trouble, the boy hid the smoldering piece of paper underneath his mother's bed, which resulted in the deadly blaze.
  • Four anti-war protestors seeking the impeachment of President Bush and Vice President Cheney were arrested after they refused to leave Rep. Jerrold Nadler's office in Brooklyn Wednesday night.
  • Staten Island native Dan Pawson looks to extend his six-day win streak on the game show Jeoporady! The SI Advance writes that he's already won more than $126,000 on the show.
  • A federal judge declined to block Viola Plummer's $1 million suit against the city, so the former chief of staff to Councilman Charles Barron could get her day in court as early as next month. Plummer was fired by Council Speaker Christine Quinn for disruptive behavior.
  • Congress made a call to the bullpen today, asking pitchers Andy Pettitte and Roger Clemens to make an appearance and answer some questions.
