- Today on the Gothamist Newsmap: a bank robbery on Richmond Ave. on Staten Island, an injured corrections officer at Rikers Island in the Bronx, and a gas leak on East 68th St. in Manhattan.
- Chris Booker, the NY radio DJ boyfriend of Philly news personality Alycia Lane who allegedly punched a female NYPD police officer after calling her a dyke, says that she's being singled out because "[she's] a babe." Or it's because she allegedly punched a female NYPD police officer in the face after calling her a dyke.
- The Observer directs the politically inclined to Iowa Caucus-watching parties around town.
- Wendy Leventer, who was fired as president of the Brooklyn Bridge Development Corporation for cost overruns, has traded jobs with her replacement and is now a senior VP at the Hudson Yards Development Corporation. And she got a raise!
- Gawker's new media reporter quit midway through his first day on the job: "Jesus spent three days in Hell. I could only handle one."
- The 7th Annual No Pants Subway Ride, organized by Improv Everywhere, is scheduled for Saturday, January 12th.
- Police officer Gregory Chin was commended by commissioner Ray Kelly for his heroics while off duty last year. Chin shot a man on a stabbing rampage on 2nd Ave. that seriously injured two people.
- Staten Island public administrator Gary Gotlin has the unenviable but important job of taking responsibility for the burial of Veronica Johannesen, allegedly killed by her husband over two weeks ago, if no other family member has stepped forward to claim her body. Gotlin explained, "We have an enormous dignity issue. There's a point at which it falls to me."
