Narcotics Officers Fatally Shoot Man
Last night, the police announced that plainclothes police officers had shot and killed a man in East New York. The Brooklyn North officerswere conducting a "buy-and-bust" drug sweep at the time.
The man apparently pulled out a gun while police were questioning him outside 970 Belmont Avenue. It's unclear whether the man fired at police, but his .38-caliber pistol was recovered from the scene. The man also had a "pocket full of bullets," according to the Post.
Neighbors heard the shooting, with one saying, "I looked out the window and I see three guys running around and one guy on the floor." And a 14-year-old told the NY Times he and his friend "didn't want to go outside. We were worried we were going to get shot."
While drug busts in the past ten-plus years have helped decrease the number of drug crimes in Brooklyn, there have been worries that drug dealing has taken over some neighborhoods.
