Council Speaker Seeks Dismissal of Dismissal Suit

plummer2.jpgCity Council Speaker Christine Quinn is seeking the dismissal of a civil suit against her filed by Council Member Charles Barron's former chief of staff Viola Plummer. Quinn gave Plummer the boot when the councilman's aide refused to sign a pledge to compose herself while the City Council was in session.

The City Hall drama all began when Queens Councilman Leroy Comrie refused to vote in favor of naming a street after black activist Sonny Carson. That's when Plummer pledged to "assassinate" him; something she claims was politically metaphorical, but others took more literally, given the murder of Councilman James Davis on the floor of the council chamber in 2003.

Plummer's boss, Councilman Charles Barron, objected to her physical removal from the chamber floor after the formal objection, and yelled at Quinn that she would never be Mayor of New York (Quinn is one of many Democrats who seems to be interested in succeeding Mayor Bloomberg). Barron told the Sun, "Can you imagine Nancy Pelosi calling up Charles Rangel and firing his chief of staff? Or Sheldon Silver telling an assemblyman that your staff member works for me and I'm firing him? Or Joe Bruno?" No, but we'd love to see what would happen if it did!

Plummer is suing Quinn for $1 million for inflicting severe mental anguish and emotional distress. Quinn's office refused press comment on the suit.

I can imagine that if someone had threaten to "assassinate" Councilfool Barron that he would have pitched a fit and been marching in the streets in protest. His behavior is worst than Plummers because he is endorsing her irrational and unprofessional bad behavior. What a hypocrite!

We can expect more good times from Mr. Barron should he become brooklyn borough president.

Therefore, vote for the other guy/lady.

I freed who?

Quinn is a pushy classless dyke who deserves to have her name smeared and suffer the indignities of the trial process...

All this hoopla was over something as menial as a street-naming project? It makes our city council members look like buffoons.

How did these people ever become public officials? Oh, that's right--the voters elected them.

Viola in her own words (obviously giving more ammunition to racists):

Let's name streets in the hood after convicted criminals. Great idea. Sonny Carson was a gang member and a kidnapper. Even though he reformed, he should not have a street named after him. How about naming the street after a REAL black HERO, someone who lived an entirly great life and did not have to reform. Then they wonder why there is so much violence in these neighborhoods.

Racists? Hardly. Unless you're calling Comrie bigoted against his fellow blacks since he strongly denounced her. In her own words, Plummer calls herself "a extremely intelligent black woman would not be so preposterously stupid to say some stupid stuff to call for the assassination of Leroy Comrie." Yeah, she sure sounds "extremely intelligent," especially given her incredibly bellicose, belligerent and defiantly unapologetic tone as she said that.

Look, any time you call for anyone's assassination, it's a red flag to reasonably cautious people. If Plummer was "extremely intelligent," she would have calmed down, explained her words and offered an apology to Comrie. What would that have cost her? But no, she had to have an all too familiar "You're either with me or against me" attitude.
