Last Night's Action: An Overtime Winner

  • Rangers 4 Montreal 3 (OT): The Rangers played one of their most uneven games of the season, but they turned it on when they needed to and got the win. Daniel Girardi and Jaromir Jagr scored in the first period to give New York a 2-1 lead heading into the second. And that’s where the Rangers went to sleep, getting only one shot in the period while the Canadiens built a 3-2 lead.

That’s where things stood well into the third period. The Rangers thought they had tied the game when Fedor Tutyin’s wrist shot was ruled a goal on the ice, but video replay overturned it. A few minutes later Chris Drury tied things up with a great effort. And, Drury figured in the overtime winner. After Montreal turned the puck over, Girardi made a brilliant pass to Drury who led Brendan Shanahan perfectly and Shanahan deposited the puck into the net for a very satisfying end to 2007.

  • Chicago 100 Knicks 83: Yes, Jamal Crawford was hurt and didn’t play, but that isn’t why the Knicks lost. They lost because they didn’t play defense (again) and didn’t hit any open shots. Isiah switched up the starting lineup again with Zach Randolph starting in Curry’s place. Just like everything else they do, the move didn’t work and the Knicks will head into 2008 hoping that it will be better than 2007. (Can it be any worse?)

I feel like I've said "Could it get any worse?" 8 or 9 times this season. Yet it always seems to. FWIW, the crowd is starting to seem apathetic towards this team. Hardly any real booing or chanting yesterday afternoon, despite a completely miserable loss. Just a bunch of bored, depressed fans.

Of course the fans were bored. BASKETBALL IS BORING.
