2007 in Food

2007_12_2ndavedeli1.jpg

Looking back over the year in food, 2007 was chock full of tasty goodness. The locavore movement was in full swing, truffles were over the top expensive, and Gothamist readers continue to get pissed off about foie gras. There was a lawsuit over lobster rolls, we got a new Whole Foods, the vendors at the Red Hook ball fields were threatened, rats ran crazy at Taco Bell, and the DOH went ballistic. Chumleys fell, but the 2nd Avenue Deli re-emerged.

Notable openings included Soto, from a chef in Atlanta with a cult following who is a master of all things uni, Grom (gelato with a cult following), Hill Country, an ode to the cult of Texas barbecue, and Anthos, the first Michelin starred Greek restaurant outside of Greece (Michael Psilakis has likely developed a cult following since then).

We'd love to hear about your favorite food moments of 2007, and we wish you a tasty 2008!

Great year for a variety of online restaurant services as well! I personally created Foodist Colony however I commend all of these sites for pushing the envelope and providing food lovers with more options than ever before. Well done!

Soto's??? It was the only fresh sushi around in Atlanta but at the same time the service was unbelievably bad because they simply couldn't make sushi fast enough. It was routine to wait nearly 2 hours for your food to come out as it came out in trickles; eating there was simply unbearable.
