Extra, Extra

2008.jpg
  • Today on the Gothamist Newsmap: a bank robbery on 7th Ave. in Brooklyn, a child shot on 224th St. in Queens, and a pedestrian struck on Park Ave. and 39th St. in Manhattan.
  • Through the miracle of digital image manipulation, even one's mug shot can become a glamour shot.
  • After a gameday prohibition on selling beer at the stadium failed to dissuade scores of men gathering at Gate D and yelling for women to bare their breasts, the Jets organization figures it may as well make some money and will resume beer sales next season.
  • "Couch Potatoes To Ring In 2008 On Couch." The ESPN SportsZone restaurant in Times Square is hosting a contest tomorrow to determine who can sit and watch sports, drink, and eat the longest. All New Year resolutions start January 2nd apparently.
  • Artist Theresa Duncan's end-of-year end-of-life post mortem blog post is a poem by T.S. Eliot.
  • The spiraling gyres of a well folded paper airplane on the waterfront of Manhattan.
  • New York City was the destination of choice for 2007 filmmakers.
  • Happy New Year to all of our Gothamist readers. Be safe, have fun, and we'll see you next year!
