  • Today on the Gothamist Newsmap: a pedestrian struck on East 112th St. and 3rd Ave. in Manhattan, shots fired at 132nd St. and Madison Ave. in Manhattan, and a commercial burglary on 4th Ave. and 90th St. in Brooklyn.
  • Page Six lists its top ten scoops of the year. #1 is about Rosie O'Donnell's writer being escorted from The View offices for drawing magic marker mustaches on pictures of Elizabeth Hasselbeck, and rumors that O'Donnell might quit the show.
  • James Colliton, the lawyer who pleaded guilty to having sex with two underage sisters and served 18 months in jail, is suing the 188-year-old law firm Cravath, Swaine, and Moore for $1.45 million he feels the firm owes him after he was fired. Colliton's lawsuit was handwritten on notebook paper.
  • 2nd Ave. Sagas notes some movies set on the NYC subway.
  • A threatened strike by building workers (e.g. doormen and cleaners) at Manhattan office buildings was averted when a contract was negotiated that offered higher benefits and wage increases of 16% over the next four years.
  • Volunteers and Animal Care and Control are working to rescue the nine cats belonging to Erica Johannesen, who was gunned down allegedly by her husband December 20th. So far, they've humanely trapped six of the cats and plan to put them up for adoption.
  • Councilman David Yassky's office organized a meeting at the Schaeffer Landing Water Taxi stop to discuss ways to avert a complete shutdown of Water Taxi service on the East River until next spring.
  • A pest control supervisor at the Dept. of Health and Mental Hygiene was arrested for possession of cocaine and selling it to co-workers.

To 2nd Ave. Saga's list I would add Dutchman (1967), based on the play by Leroi Jones, who then wrote the screenplay. It's an intense psychodrama that takes place entirely in a subway car. It might not be to everyone's taste, but if one is looking for an entire film contained in a single car, this is it.

Sooo, since all message attempts are resulting in errors today, I guess we can assume that Gothamist's ballyhooed new server was stolen by the Grinch this week, whose heart didn't grow three sizes bigger?
