Mayor Bloomberg still claims he's not running for President, but he's spending thousands of dollars to run a full page ad in The Des Moines Register--Iowa's largest circulation local paper--with his face on it. One can see the full ad here. The Mayor also placed an identical ad in The New Hampshire Union Leader. We're running this ad to the Bat Cave, to see if there are any subliminal "Mike Bloomberg '08" messages!
According to WNBC, the ads cost $22,200 and were paid for by Mayors Against Illegal Guns Inc., a group founded and funded by billionaire Bloomberg. The copy of the ad compares the daily toll of gun violence to the equivalent of a Virginia Tech massacre every day and puts candidates of both parties on the spot, asking whether they support restricting gun sales to terrorists and increasing penalties for people found guilty of illegal gun trafficking.
Separately, the city's Conflicts of Interest Board decided to give the Mayor some leeway on what type of investments he could pursue with his billions of dollars, much of it under the auspices of his charitable foundation. The board agreed to let the Mayor invest more aggressively by buying into hedge funds and publicly held corporations, but he cannot know the identities of those doing the investing.

WHat part of the 2nd amendment do these clowns not understand? On the other hand, most of them have no problem with illegal aliens taking advantage of their illegal "sanctuary city" policies.
Maybe they need to think about what nation their cities are part of.
If the Statue of Liberty describes a sanctuary city, ("Give me your tired, your poor / Your huddled masses yearning to breath free, / The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. / Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed, to me:
I lift my lamp beside the golden door."), then, I am glad I live in a sanctuary city.
As for the Second Amendment, the right may not be an individual right but a right that belongs to a "well regulated militia." Notice the use of the commas -- A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.
For argument's sake, let's say that the Second Amendment is an individual right, that does not mean it's an unlimited right. The First Amendment regarding speech and religion is not unlimited. The Fourth Amendment requiring warrants is not unlimited. The Fifth Amendment prohibiting self incrimination is not unlimited. Reasonable restrictions, like keeping guns out of the hands of lunatics, are allowed. Before you start calling people clowns, take a moment to think about the issues. You might learn something.
being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.
This may be the most ridiculous waste of money and resources ever... Of course public officials are against those things which are illegal. It just another scam to make it appear that these people actually care about their constituents and aren't just power hungry. Too bad they're not using the money to help the victims of "legal" gun violence by police officers.
Mayors FOR Illegal Guns or Mayors Against Legal Guns would be more interesting.
Ron Paul!
Regardless of how the Second Amendment gets enforced, it's clear that the federal and state governments have SOME ability, within the bounds of the Constitution, to restrict sale and ownership of guns. That being the case, it's entirely within the the rights of Bloomberg and other mayors to support stricter enforcement of laws that are on the books.
I'm still waiting for Mayors against backyard swimming pools because they kill more CHILDREN than guns do. notice I said CHILDREN.
