- Thanks to a new cut on the Waterford crystals that make up the New Year's Eve Times Square ball, the sphere will be twice as bright as last year.
- One of the rarest stamps in the world--an "Inverted Jenny"--was sold to a New Yorker. An anonymous Wall St. executive paid $825,000 for the 24 cent stamp.
- Robert Lieber, the current president of the city's Economic Development Corporation, will replace Dan Doctoroff as the Deputy Mayor for Economic Development, as Doctoroff departs to become president of Bloomberg LP. Lieber was reportedly considered a long shot for the job because he's only been in New York City government for a year.
- Apparently MSG and the Dolans are looking to avoid another embarrassing spectacle like the one where Anucha Browne Sanders sued the company for sexual harassment. The sex harassment suit brought by the New York Rangers cheerleaders against Madison Square Garden has been settled.
