The man who allegedly shot and killed Carol Simon-Hayes last week, as she was walking towards her nine-year-old son and talking to a friend on the phone, has been arrested. Darius Dubarry was arrested at a motel in Augusta, Georgia, where the 27-year-old fled town after Simon-Hayes's death. Simon-Hayes was killed in Crown Heights when an argument between Dubarry and another man devolved to gunplay, and Simon was struck by a stray bullet. “I got a bullet, I have to call 911," the nurse technician told her friend on the phone.
The New York Post reports that Dubarry is a member of the Black Israelites, that group that one can frequently find in Times Square proclaiming that black people are the true descendants of the lost tribes of Israel. The family of Carol Simon-Hayes was thrilled at the news of Dubarry's arrest. Her brother-in-law, who is married to her Simon-Hayes' sister, said "We never doubted for one moment he would be caught because we believe strongly in the police force and ourselves."
Dubarry allegedly confessed to cops that he was the one that shot Carol Simon-Hayes, and he knew that the bullet he put in her stomach killed her, which is why he fled town. He is being extradited back to New York City to face charges in her death.
If anything is to be taken from the death of the 35-year-old mother, it is the unification of members of an ethnically diverse Brooklyn neighborhood that identified Simon-Hayes' senseless death as a possible catalyst for ending a plague of violence that has claimed too many of their neighbors.

Dubarry kept it real, son.
Where's Al Sharpton?
Ah yes, the Ron Paul party... where racists go to roost. I don't know what's worse, Black Israelites preaching enlightenment and then killing black folks or ignorant white people spouting off about their superiority.
Really, I just don't know.
And enlightenment should be in quotes.
Really don't know how this guy can live with himself knowing he killed an innocent woman. Instead of being a man and facing your punishment he runs away just like a baby.
If you want an answer ask Al Sharpton or Bill Cosby.
Why the constant, insensitive, racist sniping from certain members here! Someone died, leave it alone.
I can just picture it; bitter idiots, giggling and slapping away at their keyboards, alone in their darkened rooms, venting sophomoric hate at anyone who doesn't happen to look like them. Not witty, not interesting, hardly original. For the rest of us it's simply disgusting, like accidently glimpsing angry masturbaters going about their tiresome task.
Pathetic really.

Yes, the ubiquitous racism is very very sad on this site and others. Perhaps "Snoopy" and "Spear Chucker" should look to themselves, when they are blaming others for their own miserable lives.
angry masturbaters
Now, THAT'S an oxymoron, correct...?
I don't think that anything mentioned above was racist, the person simply asked "Where is Al?" Although we have heard this comment many times before, yes I have even made this comment, the logic behind it is always dead on. We ask "Where's Al?" because we simply want to know why doesn't Al recognize that the level of violence in his community is unique and that it's the number one problem facing his community. Al would have you believe that white folk and/or the police is the biggest problem in the black community. The truth is that violence and crime need to denounced publicly by Rev. Al EVERYTIME it happens in his community. Not when the police have a justifiable shooting.
Anyone who believes crime is unique to urban neighborhoods is a fucking idiot. Yes, you're a fucking idiot, "johnieBK." The biggest problems in low-income neighborhoods is poor education and lack of local business ownership.
The biggest problem in low-income neighborhoods is lack of direction. The kids would rather play ball or hangout and listen to rap bullshit than maybe open a book and do their homework so they get an education. Education isn't like pulling up to a station and pumping a few gallons of knowledge into your head. Their shattered homelife isn't condusive to getting ahead either. Especially when the grandmother alone ends up raising the children.
Look at a minority group such as the Asians (and a lot of them are poor) and see how hardwork and study has improved their lot in life.
I'm not a racist, I'm only an observationist.
Right, Snoopy, because every person who's ever lived in a low-income area has stayed there their entire lives, never learning anything, never becoming employed, never achieving anything worthwhile. It's all a giant cesspool of ignorance and violence... and the causes of this are basketball and "rap," right?
Yea, no, you're not racist at all. You're just another fucking idiot.
Moneda you need to calm down and realize that there are true racists out there and that Snoopy and I are not racist! There are red neck racists who really want to keep the black man down! I would love to see every black man and woman go to college and earn more money than me! Believe it or not that would make me happy. I know you don't believe this. Let me ask you this:
How come the "intended victim" (the one who the bullet was meant for) didn't come forward and help in this case? If you or I were shot at and that bullet hit someone else I have no doubt that we would atleast try to help the poor victim's family and cooperate with the investigation. Why hasn't this person stepped forward? Because there are rappers like Fabolous who promote the "DON'T SNITCH" bullsh*t that is destroying these people's lives. I want Fabolous to go up to this 9 year old boy and explain to him that the intended victim should not come forward because of the "don't snitch" code.
If the Rev. Al really cared about his community, he should have held a candle light vigin infront of the alleged shooter's home urging him to turn himself in, he also should have urged for the intended victim to come forward and cooperate with the police.
Moneda, you are the one on here cursing so guess what, you look like the fucking idiot, not the rest of us.
PS. I forgot that the number one killer in the black community is white people and not black people.
Douchebag

Hey Moneda, and another thing, I never said that violence is unique to an urban neighborhood, I said it was unique Rev. Al's neighborhoods.
Look at the year to date murders of some Brooklyn neighborhoods:
Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, 4 murders
Bensonhurst, Brooklyn 2 murders
East New York, 29 murders
Brownsville, Brooklyn 28 murders
Does the Rev. Al care about these numbers?
The truth of the matter is that I truly believe that there are innocent hard working people who live in the ares with high crime rates and they definately deserve better. The problem is that the crime is caused by really a small amount of people who need to be removed from society permantly to break this cycle. But you probably feel that someone who posses an illegal gun should have a slap on the wrist. This poor child's life is forever changed, his mom was hard working person who deserved better, too bad she was cut down in the prime of her life and hopefully we get the right person to be held responsible for this and he is locked up forever.
Precisely johnieBK.
The Black Israelites are the most racist people.
I only notice the Rev Al speaking out against violence to someone in the black community when it is a non-black perpetrator or a law enforcement officer. The same goes for the Rev Jesse Jackson. I wonder is that in their church's by-laws?
As a poor, minority woman I find it incredulous to believe that the public education system is so poor in those areas...I'm being sarcastic! Why does the system work everywhere except in the low-income areas where the population is predominantly black? If the parent(s)of these children are not working then they should attend class with their children. It may make the children behave so they can absorb the lesson that is being taught. Why don't these parents understand what they are unleashing in their own communities? Ms Simon-Hayes, from the reports I read, was a decent working mother. Why should her child grow up without her? I find the mentality of the low-income community to be warped and twisted. Unfortunately, these communities that were meant to help the underprivileged are nothing but a stepping stone to a life of drugs, violence and ultimately prison. Can someone please save these people from themselves so the good people have a chance to live a normal, happy life?
