The early Friday shooting of three people by a man angry over being dumped has claimed a second victim. Jessica Gonzalez, died right after being shot in the face twice, while her new boyfriend, Nicholas Maldonado, died yesterday from injuries sustained in the shooting.
Gonzalez was breaking up with Muammer "Mike" Aldailam in a parked car outside the Morrisana section deli where Aldailam worked. Adailam went into such a rage that he used a .380-caliber pistol to shoot her. He then got out and approached the car where Maldonado and a friend were waiting for Gonzalez and fired, hitting Maldonado in the head and Luis Davila in the arm. Davila was last reported to be in stable condition.
Another friend, Stephanie Duran, who drove Gonzalez to the deli for the break-up, had been in the deli's bathroom during the shooting. Duran's sister told the Daily News that Duran returned to the car and "thought [Gonzalez] was sleeping. That's when she saw Jessica was shot in her head."
Police are still searching for Adailam, a permanent U.S. resident from Yemen.

Yeah, guns don't kill people. People kill people. But guns sure make it a hell of a lot easier. If there'd been no gun, this might have been not much more than a fistfight with a few bruises and black eyes. Then again, if everybody had a gun, maybe this wouldn't have happened. Maybe it could have looked like a scene from a Die Hard or Arnold Schwarzeneggar movie instead.
Humans have been finding inventive ways to kill each other since we could pick up rocks. Guns aren't the problem, it's the insanely violent culture we have in the US. Canada, Sweden, Switzerland and huge swaths of the world have gun ownership on par with the US, but almost no violent gun crime. If every gun disappeared from the country tomorrow I would have no problem with that (even though in the interest of full disclosure I own guns and go target shooting all the time), but that isn't going to happen. NYC has the toughest gun laws in the country, but it doesn't stop people who use guns for violent purposes because they get guns illegally. Plus you can drive to PA or Virginia and buy anything you want, including assault weapons and cartridges (a .308 is enormous cartridge mostly used in high powered rifles). Nothing will change until people figure out that killing each other is just wrong.
If Law & Order does an episode on this incident, they'll have to find another country of origin for the shooter. Yemenites are too brown to be portrayed as criminals under L&O's political correctness guidelines.
the guy did good with a mouse gun.
Wow, perhaps there was more to Jessica G than meets the eye...

Then nothing will change. People already know it's wrong. They just don't care. And until they do, the best course is to make it far more difficult for them to get their guns in PA, VA or anywhere else. This patchwork system of local laws doesn't work. No guns=much less potential damage to life and property no matter what violent urges people may have. It's a simple equation, but unfortunately nobody has the guts to stand up to the voters and tell them to suck it up and accept stricter laws.
