Hot Chocolate Hits Midtown at the Omni Berkshire Hotel

omnihotchoc.jpgHot chocolate's all the hype these days with Jacques Torres, City Bakery, Cocoa Bar, and MariBelle all pouring decadent brews at their downtown locales. And, while we have to admit that we’re more likely to stop in one of these spots below 14th Street, there are plenty of reasons for heading further uptown during this holiday season—say, for ice skating at Rockefeller Center, a trip to Central Park, or a visit to the Met.

The next time you find yourself in midtown on a blustery day, and are craving a thick cup of cocoa, check yourself in to the Omni Berkshire hotel’s Fireside Restaurant for a jazzed up Chuao hot chocolate. We’d skip the meal (high priced for only average hotel fare), but instead sit for a decadently rich cup of the buttery chocolate brew (try and grab the couches next to the fireplace). The hot chocolate comes with fresh whipped cream, crumbled graham crackers, and marshmallows, which are rumored to be available in different flavors. It is the kind of cocoa where a cup is so dense and rich that it's enough for two to share, making the $7 per cup price tag much more reasonable.

The Omni Berkshire Palace Hotel is located at 16 E. 52nd Street (the restaurant entrance is next door). (212) 753-5800.

More Ovaltine please!

Is there anywhere to get Polish hot chocolate in New York? It's really thick, you could eat it with a spoon. When I was in Krakow there was a special machine that made it that looked a bit like a modified blender.
