Apple May Be Picking Out Upper West Side Space

Could Apple be planting a seed on a location near Lincoln Center? The Meatpacking district Apple store still has that new-store smell as Apple fever extends north. According to the Post, Apple is looking to take over space at the northwest corner of Broadway and West 67th, where there's currently a two-story Victoria's Secret store.

Apple is supposedly going to put up a new building, but it's not clear how much of the structure might be glass, a la the cube in Fifth Avenue. Right now, the neighborhood has a Barnes & Noble at 66th Street and Broadway, so if Apple does open doors there, it'll be another place for people to wait before a movie at the Lincoln Square AMC theaters ever since the Tower Records closed.

In fact, with the Towers Records space at 66th and Broadway across from B&N still empty for the past year, and scaffolding from Lincoln Center renovations, it's been even more of a bummer to walk around there. On the upside, there is free Wi-Fi at Lincoln Center.

as much as i support apple, this global rapid expansion with stores is dangerous. i hope they do not expand too much and destroy themselves from outside in.

Uh-huh. I think as long as they keep pulling down $4000+ in revenue per square foot, they're going to keep building the stores...

Yes, we could always use another restroom alternative while in the area...

I agree... how many apple stores do you need? Anyway, I guess they have studied their data and this one will be packed like all the others...

Starbucks studies their data and knows they'll make money by adding locations, but that doesn't mean we need more of them either.

yeah except unlike starbucks, apple products don't suck. and free wifi for everyone. w00t!

Isn't this, like, the 6th NYC apple store?

I hear Apple is going into the computer business based on their success with the ipod. It might be just a rumor but I think they might launch something 1st quarter '08.

I'm happy that when I buy a computer I'm not financing retail monstrosities like this one.

Looks like New Yorkers really love their Macs. I'd support Apple more if they opened their OS up to running on more hardware. It works on all sorts of machines (I've got it installed on my laptop and my desktop PCs) but they make a killing on the hardware.

They're going to knock down the Victoria's Secret building? Isn't that building like five years old?

how about just ONE in Brooklyn
its not like its the most populated borough or anything

It's totally appropriate to knock up Victoria's Secrets installations. What's the problem here?
