Mike Huckabee, featured in a profile in Sunday's New York Times magazine, chose to eat at T.G.I.Friday's when given a choice of lunch spots in Manhattan. The author vetoed his choice, and they ended up at his second choice, the Olive Garden. Politics aside, that's reason enough for us not to vote for the guy. Then again, we're pretty impressed that he lost over 100 pounds and runs marathons despite eating such crap.- Gael Greene breaks the news that Esca's Dave Pasternack will open a fish shack at the new Citi Field. Grub Street checks in with Pasternack, who says that "the new Fish Shack would feature 'simple stuff' like fish-and-chips, fried clam sandwiches, and lobster rolls." Sounds delicious, but we'll have to wait until 2010 to eat it, unfortunately.

He's actually a genius. He's maintaining his image of Ordinary Guy Just Like You. New York is one of the only places in the country where TGI Fridays or Olive Garden is a joke... it most places they're the nicest places around.
Sadly, you're right. He's probably not counting on votes from anywhere in the country that laughs at Olive Garden. All-you-can-eat salad bar and breadsticks people are his main constituency.

Arkansas is in the south last i checked, and another gasbag who is from there is your lord and savior Bill Clinton.
Also i should point out that TGIFridays is primarily an east coast operation and I doubt the hundreds or stores they have out there are supported merely by midwesteners. Yes, it's true, New Yorkers support, eat and help TGIFridays thrive. I wouldn't be surprised if mike huckabee won that state on his food choices alone.
It's just the Republican / suburban way of giving NYC the finger...imagine if he skipped the local diner in some rural town and chose to eat out at the stip mall on the highway...wouldn't be so populist and down home would it?
Just illustrates how fake his message is...he's just reaching out to the red half of the country.
And our resident "Midwest-Guy-Who-Has-An-Odd-Interest-In-NYC" rings in with his defensive, knee-jerk reaction. Arkansas is in the midwest if you're judging the country from east to west. Though it's also close to being in the "South." But really -- who cares either way? It's in the middle of Flat Blandsville, the capitol of which is Chicago.
I am however impressed with your knowledge of TGIFriday's. If I ever find someone who eats there I'll ask him if you're right.
