Homer Simpson: Next Internet Superstar

Last night television created a new internet superstar (though we're sure they won't make any money off this whole internet thing), when Homer Simpson paid homage to Brooklyn's own Noah Kalina. You can watch the original video here, and Homer's below.

Kalina says this of the surprise Simpsonization: "A few months back a producer from the Simpsons contacted Carly [Comando] about using her song ‘everyday’ for an upcoming episode in which they were going to parody my video. She was negotiating a rate for the song, until they never got back to her. No fee was agreed on, no contracts signed. She and I both assumed that they were no longer interested in using her song for the show. Last night the episode aired and sure enough her song is part of the show. What’s up with that?! I am thrilled that the Simpsons parodied me, but Carly should have been compensated."

Will Homer get some Hilton-love next?

The music definitely deserves compensation! I actually only looked at what was on because I recognized the song.

Very cool to be immortalized in a Simpsons episode though. It's like a pop culture right of passage.

That's really weird that no compensation was discussed. Doesn't that violate the songwriters' rights? I imagine that Carly Comando would be able to demand for more than what she might have initially been okay with as compensation.

I'm sure the people at Fox are thinking "Go on strike sucker. See if we care. We certainly don't care about our writers."

To be honest the song sounded like ertzatz Philip Glass.

i jsut watched it (dvr ftw) & they didn't put any song info in the closed captions.
that's some fine copyright infringement there lou.

This could be just one big misunderstanding. They probably thought FOX took care of it or maybe FOX gave them the go ahead making the Simpsons fell that they had the song cleared.

If you have The Simpsons DVD's and you listen to the audio commentary on them, there have been times when they are like, "Did we get this song cleared?" And the response has been, "I don't know/I don't remember," "I think we did," or "We started talking to the artist/record label, and I don't remember what happened from there..."

I'm pretty sure FOX is going to compensate her now unless they could prove it's not her version, but a tweaked version of it. If they don't then they just won't reshow that episode on TV and when the Season 18 DVD comes out they might just have a different song playing in the background.

Whether or not she gets more money or the amount she was asking for, who knows. They probably will settle it out of court.

this comment is way late and nobody will read it but I think the composer "Carly" is a fake. Whether she knows it or not, she has just re-arranged a Glass piece from The Truman Show, called "Truman sleeps" (other tracks on that soundtrack echo the same theme). If she is making a bunch of money from it she should send half to Mr Glass.

thats all.

I registered here just to say this.
