Jay-Z Raps With Charlie Rose

In November, Charlie Rose sat down with rapper and entrepreneur Jay-Z. The musician is originally from Brooklyn and late in the interview Rose queries about the expected success of the Nets once they move to Kings County. Jay-Z is very enthusiastic about the potential of the team and the virtues of the borough, as he prefaces every statement about Brooklyn with the words "we" and "ours." It is unintentionally comedic then when Rose immediately follows up with the question "And where do you live now?" The answer is a terse "In Manhattan, uh." The exchange begins around 48 minutes and 45 seconds into the interview and a quick transcript is available at the Atlantic Yards Report site here. It reminded us of the first time that we heard that director Spike Lee had moved to the Upper East Side.

Jay-Z is certainly an interesting interview subject, with an album out connected to the Denzel Washington film "American Gangster." We still enjoy one of the first mash-up albums to go mainstream by producer DJ Danger Mouse, "The Grey Album," which mixed the Beatles' "White Album" with Jay-Z's "Black Album."

HONESTLY! Is this f-cking news? I'm sorry. I've been a Gothamist fan for a long time but these kind of post-post-post-was it ever news stories have been killing me. This interview happened 2 months ago?!? It's news? REALLY? This is better than the Willyburg pillow fights- nonnews that I had already read about twice before Gothamist. So what am I here for? Wait, who asked that? Good question. What's the point of this site? I'm gone.

HOLY SHIT. I feel like I'm reading the Demoine Register-ist. Just who is this Jay-Z fella? He's worked with the Beatles? Well, I must say. Fine man. Good lookin suit. Thanks for the tip- I'ma look into that Ranger Mouse album. Oh, when did it drop- F-ck! 3 years ago? Things pass us by here in Peoira-ist

Actually, I think Gothamist is just testing the waters here...

You seem to have forgotten that Spike had a very public feud with Eddie Murphy for leaving his roots on Long Island and fleeing to California, while Lee made a point of shooting films in Brooklyn and hiring local minority contractors for services from lights to catering.

Not long after, Spike bought a house in the legendary African-American enclave of Martha's Vineyard, sold his beautifully restored townhouse facing Fort Greene park -- the neighborhood's first million-dollar sale -- and took his wife and new-born to Manhattan.

At least he did his bit to raise real estate values.

Jeez, relax man. I'm talking about a Jay-Z interview from last month when he's got an album out related to a breaking movie and he was interviewed on Rose.

Sorry if I'm not the biggest aficionado, but the last Jay-Z album I downloaded was that mash-up with the Beatles from a few years ago, which the site wrote about at the time, so I provided a link. Sorry if that was too dated for you.

mashups = the worst thing to happen to music since right said fred.
