Openings Roundup

121407kuta.jpgKuta Satay House & Wine Bar: Taking its name from the tourist beach town in Bali, Kuta Satay House (pictured) is bringing its modern Southeast Asia menu to the Lower East Side. The main attraction here are the skewers, such as short ribs with asian pears and sesame barbeque sauce. Entrees emphasize seafood and steak, but there’s also a spicy duck curry and side dishes like garlic fries. 65 Rivington St, (212) 777-5882.

Le Royale: The club formerly known as Luke & Leroy, long the recipient of the Misshapes’ hipster tsunami, has been reborn as Le Royale. (No, not with cheese.) The upstairs area has been revamped to include a stage, and the whole place is slathered in patterned carpets, mirrored walls and pop art. And they have a cabaret license, so you can get legally footloose. At last Friday’s invitation-only opening, Kate Moss was observed making out with the DJ. See you there? 21 Seventh Ave South at Leroy.

Bar Blanc
is a new French restaurant helmed by chef César Ramirez, formerly of Bouley. The name has to do with the new establishment’s white washed interior, which has a white stone bar, white walls and white owners. Here you can feast on “organic” Cornish hen with drumstick sausages, Japanese rice risotto with fresh shrimp and saffron, and “milk-fed” roasted baby pig with pig head terrine, chanterelles, brussel sprouts and natural jus. 142 West 10th St, (212) 255-2330.

Dovetail:
Chef John Fraser, formerly of Compass, has opened Dovetail, an Upper West Side restaurant featuring seasonal American cuisine, locally sourced but prepared with international inflections. Located in a townhouse with vaulted ceilings and exposed brick walls in the dining room, the restaurant boasts an extensive sherry list, tasting menu, and a $38 Sunday supper with options like lamb meat loaf and house-cured salmon with horseradish latkes. Other menu highlights include gnocchi with black truffles; scallops with fennel, blood orange hollandaise, and marcona almonds; and Fraser’s beloved oysters Rockefeller with egg, lobster, pancetta, champagne, and caviar. 103 W. 77th St., 212-362-3800
