The way the local news was hyping today's storm (especially with their nifty, paranoid graphics!), we expected to see a few inches of snow by the time we woke up. But, no, the snow is expected to come around later this morning (the snow and sleet will make a NYC appearance around 11AM or 1PM, according to WABC). Even so, there are many school closings in the suburbs as local government and anyone else out on the road brace themselves for between 4 to 10 inches of accumulation. Manhattan will actually get more like 2 to 4 inches of snow.
The city's alternate side of the street parking rules are suspended for today, and salt trucks are at the ready. Department of Sanitation Commissioner John Doherty told WNBC the snow would be cleared by the evening rush hour, but "it's probably going to be a little bit slow."
The city is not under the heavy snow warning that other parts of NY State and Connecticut were given - we just have the winter weather advisory. And the fun may be just beginning, as CBS 2 HD severe storm expert Lonnie Quinn said, "The indications are that our area will be dealing with a significant Nor'easter sometime Saturday afternoon. We know there is going to be a lot of precipitation, we know there is going to be a lot of wind." And just think about how much more severe the storm is in HD!

4" of frozen rain... can't wait
It is a shame that John Bolaris has moved on. He was always fun to watch during winter weather events.
THANKYOU for posting about this. I get so tired of the news and now the WTC. Its all like there on crystal or something. news is news it doesnt need any hype! Please chill out on the crack people, too many swooosh graphics just make me change the channel. I want my Weather Channel nirvana back!
if tomorrow is 40 degrees, then the storm won't be too bad.
Wow, talk about overhyped. 2-4 inches people! That's barely enough to make a snowman. New York seems to be turning into Washington, DC. Two inches of snow and people panic, stock up on milk and bread, the news gives us updates every half hour...before it all melts tomorrow...
The Nor'easter this weekend on the other hand...now that could be something.
@rtd2101: I know, right? I cannot believe the way people are freaking out over such little snow. And WNBC is calling it "EXTREME?" It's December. It's New York City. It's supposed to snow.
"Severe Storm Expert" >>> WTF?
Drinking the Kool-Aid, eh?
Use some original reporting rather than reporting via press release or cut-and-paste.
I hope school gets cancelled.
Come to the Western and Northern suburbs of the city for some snow :)
Manhattan has nothing has usual!
Glad I won't be back until Sunday night!
