Pencil This In

PARTY: Though we were sad to see former editor, Colleen Kane, depart the media mothership of maleness, Playgirl magazine...the show must go on. Tonight come celebrate their January issue and their 2008 centerfold calender...all at once. Free booze and gift bags for all!

7 to 10pm // Happy Ending [302 Broome St] // Free

THEATER: For “sophisticated literate slapstick, big on laughs highbrow and low,” Culturebot recommends 500 Clown Frankenstein. Although the cast is 497 clowns short of their advertised total, sometimes, when it comes clowns, less is more – and besides, these aren’t your average John Wayne Gacy type clowns; the Chicago based group is known for taking the genre to new, unexpected places. (They also moonlight doing corporate training seminars that teach business leaders how to “improve brand and sales performance.”) Their current show finds the trio embarking “on a madcap journey to construct Dr. Frankenstein's laboratory. Challenging and elaborate period costumes, poor lighting, difficult language, and an ornery table prevent them from properly telling Mary Shelley's classic tale.” – John Del Signore

7:30pm // PS 122 [150 First Ave] // Tickets cost $20.

200712weeds2.jpgCOMEDY: Kevin Nealon survived SNL for nearly a decade (1986-1995), and now he's playing a lovable pothead on Weeds. But he also shines off screen, so come check out his stand up routine tonight at Caroline's, where he'll be performing for three days.

8pm // Caroline's [1626 Broadway] // $32.75, Reservations available at 212.757.4100 or tickets via Ticketweb

MUSIC: Last month we chatted with Matthew Houck (aka Phosphorescent) and he told us "We are the best band in America right now. We can prove it." Tonight he'll be proving it for free at Sound Fix.

8pm // Sound Fix [110 Bedford Ave] // Free

Why not make a night of music and head over to N 6th Street after you get your fill of Phosphorescent. Today's interviewees, The Muggabears, play Galapagos tonight with Hold Up and Bear Hands.

10pm // Galapagos [70 N 6 St] // $10
