Last Night's Action: Aren't These Teams Bad?

  • Sonics 117, Knicks 110: Knicks fans deserve a lot of credit. No one's pointing out how hard it is to chant "Fire Isiah." That phrase has a ton of vowel sounds. They held off for part of this game, but at the end, the result was the same. Zach Randolph is the only self-respecting Knick, though Jamal Crawford has been putting up better numbers with Stephon Marbury still out. The sum of the parts is terrible at this point. After terrible back-to-back losses to the 76ers, the Knicks lost to the Mavericks, fine. But the Seattle SuperSonics? They're not going to make the playoffs. Kevin Durant, the No. 2 pick in the NBA draft, put up 30 points, five rebounds and four assists. If the Knicks keep on their current trajectory, they'll be in place for a similar pick. That's assuming they don't trade theirs. Given Thomas' management of the team, that's a big assumption.

  • Capitals 5, Rangers 4 (OT): If only Brendan Shanahan didn't fall down. His overtime stumble led to the Capitals' game-winner and kept the Rangers from a shot at both points. Not his best moment. The Rangers' 2-0 lead that disappeared will also be a source of regret.

  • Sabres 5, Islanders 3: The Islanders simply woke up too late. A 3-0 lead proved too much to overcome, as did Buffalo's attack. Rick DiPietro had to make 36 saves, but he also let five goals in.

The ice at the Verizon center is terrible, Gomez fell down earlier in the game too. Sometimes you fall down, Shanny's still the man.

  • David

Alright, no problem, Shanny. Let's go, Rangers, I'm feeling a big win for you on Sunday. At home.

  • section313

yeah - Shanny fell down and the Caps won in OT. But he is also the reason there WAS an OT. The Rangers battled back twice to tie the game which is something they haven't been all that great at of late but they are obviously capable.
