He Knows What You've Injected

2007_12_mitchell.jpgHe’s made his list, he’s checked it twice and now we are going to find out who has been naughty and not nice. Former Senator George Mitchell's report on the use of performance-enhancing drugs in Major League Baseball comes out at 2pm today. And besides providing us with the most complete look at the use of performance-enhancing drugs to date, the Mitchell Report will also name names.

While it is just speculation at this point, one source tells the Bergen Record that “several prominent Yankees” will be named and that it is going to be “a rough day in the Bronx”. The source also says that none of the Mets on the current 40-man roster are named in the report. ESPN is reporting that Brian McNamee, Roger Clemens' personal trainer, supplied Clemens with steroids prior to and during his tenure with the Yankees. McNamee didn't stop with Clemens, according to the Daily News, Andy Pettitte will also be named in the Mitchell Report. And, it won’t just be Yankees or former Mets named, several “MVP’s and All-Stars will also be in it.

Whoever is named, expect a lot of backlash against the report later today. You can bet, that the Players Association will be jumping to the defense of the accused by pointing out that Mitchell is naming players who have never failed a drug test and are linked to illegal performance-enhancing drugs by receipts and witness testimony. Also, it is unclear what punishment, if any, will be handed out to the names on the list. So, it is very possible that most of the players named will show up in Spring Training eligible to play and punished only by the scorn of the fans.

We've seen how well fan scorn works - a.k.a the Knicks.

Doubtful you'll see any Red Sox on the report since Mitchell is on the Board of Directors.

That is a spectacular combover.

It's about time this all comes out in the open. You don't see steroid use in pro football so why should it be tolerated in baseball?

This is retarded. Why is this such a huge deal in baseball and in football no one gives a damn.

Football has had a policy for quite some time now (don't know dates off hand). They were the first to do this, though there's isnt' as strict as other sports.

I love the fact that if they bet on baseball they would have been kicked out in a nanosecond, but since they cheated it takes years for anything even the Selig regime to admit anything happened. Bud Selig will go down as the man that killed baseball.

This will make the H of F balloting very interesting in the next few years.

Bullseye, Snoopy. If there isn't rampant steroid use in football, I'll eat my hat. And I wear several. And they're all delicious.

And it's snowing today! It usually does that this time of year, but for some reason, the news media behaves as if some massive asteroid is falling from the sky.

And athletes take drugs and enhancers to (they hope) improve their game. Shocker! The NFL and it's fans seem fine that most of their stars are on steroids. Why does baseball carry on with this morality play charade? It doesn't matter if it was cocaine and beer in Ruth's day, or amphetimines in Mantle and Aaron's day, or cortisone shots and surgically rebuilt shoulders today, the athletes will (almost) always seek out a way, physically or physiologically, to get an edge. And guess what? It makes for more exciting sports - whether it's Bonds hitting HR's into the ocean, Ben Johnson breaking records, or Roger Clemens striking out the side.

Brady Anderson, Manny Alexander, Rick Ankiel, Jeff Bagwell, Barry Bonds, Aaron Boone, Rafaeil Bettancourt, Bret Boone, Milton Bradley, David Bell, Dante Bichette, Albert Belle, Paul Byrd, Wil Cordero, Ken Caminiti, Mike Cameron, Ramon Castro, Jose and Ozzie Canseco, Roger Clemens, Paxton Crawford, Wilson Delgado, Lenny Dykstra, Johnny Damon, Carl Everett, Kyle Farnsoworth, Ryan Franklin, Troy Glaus, Rich Garces, Jason Grimsley, Troy Glaus, Juan Gonzalez, Eric Gagne, Nomar Garciaparra, Jason Giambi, Jeremy Giambi, Jose Guillen, Jay Gibbons, Juan Gonzalez, Clay Hensley, Jerry Hairston, Felix Heredia, Jr., Darren Holmes, Wally Joyner, Darryl Kile, Matt Lawton, Raul Mondesi, Mark McGwire, Guillermo Mota, Robert Machado, Damian Moss, Abraham Nunez, Trot Nixon, Jose Offerman, Andy Pettitte, Mark Prior, Neifi Perez, Rafael Palmiero, Albert Pujols, Brian Roberts, Juan Rincon, John Rocker, Pudge Rodriguez, Sammy Sosa, Scott Schoenweiis, David Segui, Alex Sanchez, Gary Sheffield, Miguel Tejada, Julian Tavarez,Fernando Tatis, Maurice Vaughn, IJason Varitek, Ismael Valdez, Matt Williams and Kerry Wood

Is that the list or is that your guess? I hope Pettitte isn't in the report. Ugh, and Pujols!

Wow, where did you get that, TimSPC? Looks pretty complete to me. And most are guys who had a great couple of years then fell off spectactularly.

that seems like a list I could almost believe is legit... where did you get it? :)

Damon was rumored to use steroids, but I probably wouldn't have necessarily guessed...although he does have a big neck.

This list has been floating around the internet for the better part of this morning. Whether its legit or not is questionable.

I'm unsure if that list is valid. If it is, it eliminates the Sox cover-up theory. 19 players with ties to Boston's club.

Brady Anderson, Manny Alexander, Jeff Bagwell,Dante Bichette, Jose Canseco, Roger Clemens, Paxton Crawford, Johnny Damon, Carl Everett, Rich Garces, Eric Gagne, Nomar Garciaparra, Jeremy Giambi, Guillermo Mota, Trot Nixon, Jose Offerman, Julian Tavarez, Maurice Vaughn, Jason Varitek.

the only person on the list that suprises me is Pettite. You think you know a person. WHy ANDY? WHY?

Drewo:
I'm wondering how beer makes anyone a better player. It makes you THINK you're better player, but that's about it.

#22 - Angry: no it doesn't - but taking steroids also does not necessarily make you a better player. See the likes of Paxton Crawford (who?) or Neifi Perez above.

Like a broken clock, a New England fan is right twice a day... and MJG is right. I don't see how anyone can accuse Mitchell of Sox bias.

WFAN is reading the list now. The one above is not complete. It includes Randy Velarde, Ron Villone, and Paul LoDuca.

WFAN.com...

Any names released yet?

I found a list of all the players names unveiled in the MLB Mitchell Report:
http://www.listafterlist.com/ListAfterListcomListsAbout/tabid/57/ListID/10204/Default.aspx

Some big names! Bonds, Clemens, McGwire, Prior, Belle, Raph....

It's posted now on wfan

Radomski said he made one sale to Justice, which occurred after the 2000 World
Series. Justice played for the Yankees that year. Justice paid Radomski by check for two or
three kits of human growth hormone. Radomski said that he cashed this check.

Mo Vaughn is on the list.

Ron Villone is on the list.

Kevin Brown is on the list.

The report names Clemens as a steroid user. It also says water is wet and Charize Theron is hot.

Beyond Roger and Pettitte, not sure how this rocks baseball... most of this is old news in one way or the other.
