Serial Robbers Hit Bronx Businesses

2007_12_bronxbod.jpgA series of bodega robberies in the Bronx has police anxious to arrest the perpetrators. Yesterday, cops released surveillance footage from a Sunday robbery on St. Ann's Avenue, hoping the public will be able to identify the men in the video. Police believe the same robbers hit a store last night and shot a man in the face and torso.

According to WNBC, the video shows a robber rushing behind the counter, pointing a gun at a worker, "who immediately cowered into the corner as the robber rifled through the cash drawer...When the robbery began, a customer inside tried to flee through the front door but was kept inside by one of the robbers."

Since last Monday, the robbers have hit at least seven businesses. The suspects are men, one about "5 feet 8 inches with a heavy build, a goatee and wearing a baseball style cap with a dark hooded sweatshirt" and the other is "5 feet 10 inches tall with a gray hooded sweatshirt."

Three weeks ago, a bodega owner was shot dead outside his Harlem deli and, in June, a bodega owner was killed by a group suspected of around 17 other bodega robberies in Queens. Recently, one Queens bodega owner took matters into his own hands by fighting off one potential robber with a machete.

With the in depth description of the bodega banditos, wouldn't a description of their approximate skin color be considered? Are they white, light skinned hispanic, black, etc. etc.?

Enough with this political correctness stuff.

Nothing about ethnicity in the article from WNBC; I'll see what I can dig up. I think the cops are hoping the surveillance footage and stills tip off people.

Snoops, it's painful not getting to immediately exercise your racism to its fullest extent, isn't it? Why must we be held hostage to this bleeding heart liberal lack of conclusive evidence?

The news I watched last night said they were hispanic.

Jen Chung, you are truly a disappointment and disgrace. Gothamist decides to close guest comments to have members register but you allow a member to go by the name "FuckingNiggers" and still allow him/her to post. So what was the purpose of closing guest comments? Ever since registering members there have been many N-word usernames or some form of the N-word created. On some news blogs if you type in n-i-g-g-e-r, when posted it will show up n*****. Or sometimes it will not even show up at all and not allow you to post if that word is detected in your message. But on Gothamist, that word is not only accepted, members can make a usernames out of it. So I thought the purpose of registering is to keep tabs on unruly members. Now Gothamist is even worst then before. At least a guest couldn't create a name but now they have the freedom to display their hatred in their name and avatar. Sadly, you or Gothamist never denounce it.

So please decide how you want Gothamist to be recognized and seen. As a site for insight and discussion on news topics or a site where hatred can be said freely. Take a stand and stop allowing this to happen. You post on the same articles that members are displaying hatred in and never reply to the comments so you must agree with them. Maybe someone should created usernames displaying hatred of your ethnicity or culture. As the saying goes "If you are not standing up against it, then you must be standing for it". Maybe that's right because I notice their are no "n*****" members on the Gothamist staff. So a site where the N-word can be used freely, no blacks on the staff, and members are allow to display hatred towards blacks in many different forms must mean that Gothamist and you are racist. What did Dog Chapman say, he thought he was "cool" enough to use that word, then Gothamist must think its "cool" enough to allow the word to be used. I lost tremendous respect for this site and you Jen Chung. Are you sure you want to be co-founder of a site that allows racial slurs to be a common trend. You are the founder of this site so when racial slurs, hatred usernames, and the N-word is allowed to be used so freely it is a representation of you. So Jen, you are not cool enough to allow this to happen on your site .... but maybe you are for it happening on your site! Your skin is not dark so maybe you don't care about what "others" say since it's not geared towards you and your culture.

So Jen, please decide where you and Gothamist want the site to stand, but allowing names like c00n, FuckingNiggers, and others to be created and post without you never denouncing them, maybe we already know where you stand.

Where are the Joe Horns in the city?

Touchy Touchy I see here.

Just because mainstream media does not want the "N" word to be used doesn't mean alternative media needs to accomodate that same attitude.

If you have a problem with the word go talk to all the rap stars that use it and worse and stop wasting time here.

Rodogg, are you black and what is your opinion about the "N" word constantly being used by blacks/hispanics and in Hip Hop music?

Actually, I'd have to give Jen props for her handling of the many attacks directed at her - no doubt facilitated by the fact that she is an educated Asian woman. She never tries to impose on this blog as some kind of moral authority - unlike some staff members here, or rather ONE pompous individual here....

Didn't Pompous Pilate sign off on the Jesus case?

Who?

RoDogg is right - the F##N## moniker is OUT OF LINE!

@6 RoDogg,
