Dodging the Freezing Rain Bullet

nws_maxt_1210.jpgIt looks like we will miss the freezing rain today as the cold air hasn't quite gotten here.
A winter weather advisory is in effect for those portions of upstate New York and western New England that are getting the freezing rain.

The freezing rain upstate, and the drizzly foggy conditions here, are associated with an elongated frontal system that stretches from the east coast back to Texas. That system, which is being blamed for six deaths and 400 cancelled flights at Chicago O'Hare has brought more than an inch of freezing rain to portions of the Midwest yesterday with more expected today.

The front is separating tropical air to the south from arctic air to the north. For the most part the city will stay on the "tropical" side this week. It won't feel very tropical though, today's high of 45 will be a touch below normal. Rain will diminish during the day. Rain returns, the front isn't going anywhere, tomorrow afternoon and looks to last through Wednesday evening. Cooler air is expected Wednesday night, which will turn the rain to snow or sleet before changing back to rain Thursday afternoon. All in all a pretty messy week of weather.

A bullet made of freezing rain? Sounds like the perfect crime.
