Last Night's Action: Keeping Things in Perspective

2006_11_sknickslogo.jpg

  • 76ers 101, Knicks 90: Under most circumstances, losing to one of the worst teams in the NBA would be of concern to the Knicks. But with the death of guard Stephon Marbury's father, it doesn't seem so bad. Marbury played for the first half and scored two points but didn't come back out for the second half. Jamal Crawford had his second straight excellent game, but the Knicks frontcourt couldn't contain Samuel Delambert. The two teams play again Saturday.

  • Rockets 96, Nets 89: That new Nets arena can't come soon enough. New Jersey is now 4-8 at home. Jason Kidd played after recovering from his "headache" -- some think he wants out of the Meadowlands -- but the Nets had no answer for Yao Ming. Jason Collins and Bostjan Nachbar just couldn't play defense on the Rockets center.

  • Devils 3, Capitals 2: Break up the Devils! Vitaly Vishnevski and Dainius Zubrus scored in the first period and helped New Jersey to its ninth straight win. The Atlantic division is probably the best in the NHL. Every team is over .500.

  • Panthers 3, Islanders 0: Ouch. The Islanders allowed 41. They couldn't score a goal of their own in 25 tries. That's five straight losses for them.

  • Thrashers 4, Rangers 2: A 2-1 first-period lead quickly disintegrated under the stewardship of Stephen Valiquette. Who can blame the Rangers for starting him after Henrik Lundqvist got rocked in his last two games. Next up: a home game with the Devils on Sunday.
