Extra, Extra

  • Today on the Gothamist Newsmap: an armed robbery on Washington Ave. in the Bronx, a bank robbery on 18th Ave. in Brooklyn, and a pedestrian struck on 69th St. and Queens Blvd. in Queens.
  • Amidst "barbs and accusations," talks between studios and the writers guild appear to have broken down. Repeats will continue, as will Seth Meyers' long circular picketing sojourn.
  • Animals at the Queens City Zoo will be receiving special holiday culinary treats to chow down on every weekend this month.
  • Some news outlets use the word "reorganized," but three more city schools are being closed due to disappointing performance. The total is now 13.
  • Tomorrow is a great opportunity to visit five historic homes in Flushing, Queens that are generally not open to the public, as part of a holiday tour.
  • NBC is refusing to air an ad asking viewers to remember and thank members of the military for their service because it refers to the spot's sponsor's web site, which it deems too political.
  • Police are searching for someone who shot a woman in Queens late yesterday. The victim was shot in the chest and found clutching a knife in her hand.
  • SantaCon was today; we'll have extended coverage of the bearded bacchanal tomorrow.

Well let me tell you right now. I find this whole thing with the mass of Santas invading our neighborhoods and local bars on a quiet Saturday morning revolting. Next time let me know when they are doing it so I could join them

NBC is airing the ad. News came out this afternoon.
Read the wires, knucklehead!

Don't you have to be a fatty to be santa claus?

"NBC is airing the ad. News came out this afternoon.

You talking to me BongoBoy? If not, I wont call you an asshole.

If I watched NBC perhaps I would have realized that a thing happened in the past. It's kind of like watching the 10 o'clock news - dateline September 11, 2001, that there was a terror attack today in New York City.

Snoopy, I believe he was calling me the knucklehead, re: a decision to air an ad about wishing military personnel merry xmas. NBC wasn't going to air it as of this morning, but apparently the network changed its mind mid-day. An extra 15 minutes of self-flagellation for me tonight, I guess.

doesn't giving the zoo animals special treats for christmas (i mean, 'the holidays') insinuate that they don't otherwise feed them anything but the best food for the animals' diets?

Here is a link to the NBC cave-in. Seems like NBC can't make any good decisions of late. The group, Freedoms Watch "was formed to promote the common good and general welfare of the American people by supporting mainstream conservative public policies." Given some of the players in the group, it appears to be a Republican front organisation and part of some sort of over arching propaganda and enlightenment campaign.

"it appears to be a Republican front organisation and part of some sort of over arching propaganda and enlightenment campaign."

You just made their point.

Snoopy seems to be use to the calls of knucklehead.

As to Freedom's Watch, I'd say they are watching for way to take your freedom away. Be afraid of any organization where Ari Fleischer is the lead mouthpiece.
