Brooklyn's Best Bust Out in Zagat Guide
Zagat's updated Best of Brooklyn 2008 guide was released yesterday, filled to the brim with all that the city's largest borough has to offer, including 216 restaurants, 141 nightspots, 355 shops, 25 tourist attractions and more. Like all Zagat guides, this one is a complilation of surveys from the public and each entry is rated on a scale of 1-30. The guide is broken up into five sections: Dining, Nightlife, Shopping, Gourmet Shopping & Entertaining, and Sites & Attractions. Ever wondered what Brooklyn's highest rated tourist attraction is? According to Zagat surveyors, it's a toss up between the Brooklyn Botanic Garden and the Brooklyn Museum, both earning a 26.
Carroll Gardens shows off some of Brooklyn's highest rated new restaurants, Lucali, Petite Crevette and Pó (standby Peter Luger maintains the highest food rating in the borough with a 28), while Williamsburg, unshockingly, is nightlife central, with 11 new openings this past year. That said, Stonehome Wine Bar in Fort Greene and Brooklyn Inn in Boerum Hill were given the highest ratings under the "appeal" category.
The "Gourmet Shopping and Entertaining" section highlights some of our favorites -- LeNell's, Sahadi's, Jaques Torres, Blue Apron, and Mazzola Bakery to name a few.

I hate to start a Chowhound-type discussion, but Stone Park? Puhleeze, that place is so 2005. The food has slipped, so has the service and the attitude from the owner and hosts/hostesses? I take my dollars elsewhere. Give me Al di La, Tempo or Applewood any day.

I like Applewood -- particularly their "meet the farmer" dinners. I am now addicted to Flying Pigs Farm products.

I don’t know if it’s in there this year but I had a really fun night at Rasputin last weekend. For a Russian restaurant in Brooklyn not exactly on Brighton Beach, it had a lot to offer. My wife and I were with a big group, and we felt like we were in Europe again, with the food, music, and attitudes. We got there late, and left late, but would probably do it all over again as long as the vodka shots and juicy lamb chops with French fries keep coming!
