Last Night's Action: Role Reversal

  • Rangers 4, Islanders 2: It's a good thing these teams play each other eight times each season. Otherwise, the Rangers might have a confidence problem. Given enough opportunities to beat a particular opponent, any team is bound to cash in sooner or later. After losing the first three games against the Islanders, the Blueshirts finally broke through. Jaromir Jagr and Chris Drury each had a goal and an assist against Rick DiPietro. The Islanders still have two games in hand, but they'll need to wait a while for the revenge. The two clubs don't meet again until March 4. They will have a home-and-home in March and another in early April.

  • Celtics 104 Knicks 59: Any time a team trails by more points than it has scored in the fourth quarter, Marv Albert is officially allowed to call it an embarrassment. The Celtics are good, but getting blown out the door from the getgo like this is just inexcusable. If not for Nate Robinson's buzzer-beating 3-pointer, the Knicks would have set their all-time record for offensive ineptitude. The Celtics didn't even have to try. Kevin Garnett played 22 minutes. The starters sat out the fourth quarter. Say so long to that winning streak Isiah!

The Knicks are one of the most entertaining "teams" in sports. Every week I look forward to find out what new ways of failure they can come up with. The most exciting team since '94.

The Garden *has* a good team. And it's not the Knicks.
