THEATER: Noah Haidle’s new play Rag and Bone is a surreal black comedy about two orphaned brothers who run a custom ladder store – you know, the kind of place that caters to the discriminating ladder connoisseur. But walk into the shop and ask the oldest brother George for “a very special ladder” and he’ll connect you with a stolen human heart. George’s little side business is sustained by his appropriation of hearts from kind and noble strangers; after stealing them from good folks he implants them into paying customers. The macabre fairy tale follows the changes wrought by the “good” hearts on the new owners and their subsequent frenzy to get the best heart on the market – that of a poet. Meanwhile, George’s kid brother is obsessed with building a ladder that will reach heaven and enable a sing-a-long of "Baby Mine" from Dumbo. Michael Criscuolo calls it “outstanding.” – John Del Signore

8pm // Rattlestick Theater [224 Waverly Place] // Tickets cost $40.

MUSIC: If you couldn't get tickets to Rick Moody, Sufjan Stevens and Wesley Stace at Southpaw for the music/lit extravaganza tonight...it was postponed anyway! But there are still some available for another great show -- tonight Celebration, Holy Fuck, and Effi Briest take the Bowery Ballroom stage. We're fans of that middle band -- they play a weird tape machine, have an electro-sensibility and bring a little hip-hop to each show.

8pm // Bowery Ballroom [6 Delancey St] // $14

the schnabel/reed event should be titled:

"No, I'M more arrogant!"

If they ever do a Lou Reed bio-pic, I nominate William H. Macy as the lead.

Lou Reed looks pretty healthy in that pic.
