It took all of 45 seconds on Sunday to tell you that the Giants were in trouble. Lawrence Tynes sent the opening kickoff out of bounds and Minnesota scored on a 60-yard bomb on their second play of the game. It was a harbinger of things to come as Minnesota thrashed the Giants 41-17 on Sunday.
You can blame the entire team for this one, but the quarterback deserves special consideration. Eli Manning was terrible throwing four interceptions, three of which were returned for touchdowns and his “aw shucks” press conference didn’t inspire much confidence. Time is running out on the Manning to prove he is something more than a guy with a famous last name and the last five games of the season will be a huge test for him.
The schedule is treacherous, road games in Chicago and Philly followed by a home game against Washington then a trip to Buffalo and a final clash at home with the currently unbeaten Patriots. 3-2 should get them into the playoffs, 2-3 might even be enough. As bad as it seems this morning, the Giants still lead the wild card race, the problem is this loss created more questions than answers.

That was fucking embarrassing yesterday. It hurt to watch.
Boomer Esiason did make a great point yesterday though, during the commentary. Half the scorn and expectation we heap on this kid is directly due to the fact that he told San Diego to go fuck themselves because Archie wanted him to play in a bigger media outlet for better marketability.
That pretty much set him up for folly.

Good point, Ph. But bear in mind that the Giants front office was hot hot hot for Eli, too, not that Phillip Rivers is any bargain, but it did run both ways.
But you're right, Eli always have that no-quite-ready-for-prime-time look about him.
He's still a young QB. Why are NY sports fans so impatient with young players?
Also, his numbers are very similiar to Peyton during his first few seasons. Give him time ... and healthy receivers. A QB can only be as good as the receivers around him.
Chill out! The Giants are still 7-4 and will make the playoffs. What I wouldn't give for my team to be 7-4 right now and a virtual lock for the wild card.
And I was just getting over the last Vikings game from two years ago, when the Giants gave up TDs with an INT return, a kickoff return and a punt return. In that game the Giants D was pitching a shutout until the final 90 seconds when they let the Vikes go down the field for a winning last-second FG. Yesterday's game was easier to stomach actually, because the realization they were going to lose came much sooner.
So anyway, stop me if you've heard this one before: A football team from NY that plays its home games in Jersey was 6-2 halfway through the season. Then the offense went south, their kid-brother-of-a-famous-QB QB started to regress, and the schedule got harder. Prediction: they squeak into the playoffs and lose a wildcard game. Coughlin gets his contract extended and the Giants lose in the wildcard round every year he's the coach.
Wow, a quarterback had a 4-interception game against an inferior team. That's never happened before ever.
Except for, you know, two weeks ago when Peyton did it or 6 weeks ago when Romo did it.
