Last Night's Action: Brodeur Provides a Lift

Devils 3, Thrashers 0: Martin Brodeur earned his first shutout of the season -- and the 93rd of his career -- and the Devils are at .500 again. Rod Pelley and Paul Martin had the two non-empty-net goals for the Devils. Jamie Langenbrunner tied an NHL record by assisting on all of his team's goals. After that early-season road trip, the Devils appear to have their skates back under them.

Panthers 3, Rangers 2 (SO): Chris Drury had no problems scoring two goals in regulation, but when he needed to in a shootout, he came up empty. After Olli Jokinen scored on Florida's fifth try, Drury came up empty and the Rangers fell. Jaromir Jagr had a shot go off the post late in the third period. This was just one of those games where nothing goes right. The Rangers still got a point, though, so they won't complain that much.

Bruins 2, Islanders 1: At some point, the Islanders will have to score more than two goals to win on a consistent basis. This was their seventh straight game with two goals or fewer. They've been lucky to win three of those. Their offense has been disorganized. Friday's game could have been lost when they missed on a five-on-three opportunity. Or maybe they were just thrown off by the daytime start.

Nets 98, SuperSonics 93: Maybe it's the red jerseys. Or maybe it's Richard Jefferson dropping 30 every night. Whatever it is, the Nets will take it. Despite nearly blowing a 13-poiont lead, the Nets won their second straight in the Pacific Northwest. Vince Carter had `15 points in 34 minutes.
