Fred Thompson Complains About Rudy Giuliani

2007_11_fredthompson.jpgWho knew thousands, if not millions, of New Yorkers would agree with presidential hopeful Fred Thompson on something? In this case, the former Senator and former Law & Order District Attorney was talking about Rudy Giuliani's reliance on touting his New York City credentials during a campaign stop in New Hampshire today.

Thompson told a crowd at a gun store, Giuliani "relates everything to New York City. Well, New York City is not emblematic of the rest of the country, I don't think. I think the sentiments of those people in the rest of the country are in support of the Second Amendment -- which is where I've always been and I don't think he's ever been."

During his terms as mayor, Giuliani supported gun control laws - which many big city mayors do. He was even the only Republican to sue the gun industry, but more recently, Giuliani has eased his position to say he supports an individual's right to bear arms. So Thompson took the opportunity to note his rival's record, "(Giuliani) simply supported just about every gun control legislation that came down the pipe. I just disagree with him on that. I saw he was at bill signing ceremonies with (New York Sen.) Chuck Schumer and President Clinton and others for gun control legislation over the years. Of course, he's not as outspoken about it any more." Then Thompson bragged about having his own skeet shoot.

It's unclear how the NRA feels about Giuliani, after he took that phone call from his wife during an important speech.

At least more people are calling Rudy out on his bullshit.

Yeah... Giuliani is pro-gun control despite whatever he says. That being said, I don't think being in support of gun control is necessarily being against 2nd amendment rights.

Another thing is I don't think the same gun control policies that work for a city necessarily are good for rural areas. Aren't there some areas where people live in cabins where grizzly bears like to break into houses? What are you supposed to say to the bear, "hey buddy, you better get out before I call the cops."

And then what about people who like to hunt? You can't hunt in nyc, but you can in plenty of other places.

I'm not terribly worked up about guns or hunting either way. But, I still have opinions.

The idea of Rudy handling a gun troubles me. I see him having a Cheney moment. Him being CIC and in charge of the big guns is truly problematic.

As for Fred, I have one comment. Does he use the phrase ''that dog won't hunt'' ever? It seems to fit somehow.
