Last Night's Action: How Low Can The Knicks Go?

2007_11_stephontowel.jpgIt started with the fans booing Stephon Marbury and Isiah Thomas and ended with the fans booing all of the Knicks. The Knicks commited an amazing 27 turnovers in their 108-82 loss Tuesday. Baron Davis had 31 points, 7 assists and 6 rebounds as he showed the fans the type of play by a point guard they can only dream about.

And, expect it to get worse. After the game Isiah Thomas conducted a bizarre press conference where he refused to say that the players gave a lousy effort in the loss and told the assembled media, “this one’s on me tonight.” Is that a sign he is trying to get Jim Dolan to fire him? One thing’s for sure, he didn’t teach Stephon Marbury anything by benching him as Marbury told the press this morning “we were 2-3 when everything started, we haven’t won a game since.” Marbury added, “To be honest not a whole lot came out of this, nothing good came out of all of what went on.”

Perhaps the only good news for the Knicks is that they get to play away from MSG tonight. Unfortunately, the game is in Detroit so don’t expect a win, but why would you from this team?

I was there. Using a friend's tickets (as I suspect most of those in attendance were doing). The Garden was at least 1/3 empty at tipoff. People began to clear out midway through the 3rd quarter. It was completely pathetic.

I've been a NYK fan since the 70's, and had season tickets for years, and I can sincerely, honestly say that I never saw such a weak, uninspired, uncaring effort turned in by them. No wonder the fans were booing so loudly. David Lee and Quentin Richardson were the only two Knicks who showed any involvement in the game. There was not even the pretense of playing defense, and their offensive sets were mind boggling. Lee seemed to be constantly gesturing to the bench; I assume to ask WTF they were supposed to be doing.

It seems clear to me (and to my companions, and the other people sitting nearby) that A) Thomas is angling to get fired ASAP and B) the team is doing its level best to help him along.

But Jesus! It's only November! And the season is over already?

They should kick Thomas to the curb and put Herb Williams in charge, but that is too obvious a move for Dull Knife Dolan. Whatever they do, I'm sure they will screw it up six ways to Sunday. And too bad, for Knicks fans, and for the NBA.

It really was that bad.

The Yanks may spend a lot of money and make a public spectacle of themselves regularly, but at least they don't do the same and embarrass themselves at the same time. Torre won four World Series and repeatedly got his team into the playoffs. The Knicks and Thomas, . . . their record speaks for themselves.

Yo! You getting in da truck bitch?

Dolan is the worst...

I'm with the Old Pooperoo. I was there last night and it was really, really depressing. The team seems lost. Lee and Randolph are playing their butts off...tho don't see a thing from Q, I'm sorry. Dude's lost his shot, can't keep up on D, even if he's trying. 4 points, 8 boards or whatever from the starting 3 isn't enough. Everyone else is just going through the motions out there. Worst.

I don't understand why people go to Knicks games. If you want to encourage change, why don't you stop going until some change is effected? Apparently, money is not the most important thing for Dolan, but an (even) steeper drop-off in attendance/revenue would certainly provide *some* encouragement to do something.

Haha, Golden State rocks with their impulsiveness. I would have gone to this game just to see the Knicks get their ass handed to them.

Aren't they in last place now? hehe
