Last Night's Action: Fourth Time a Charm

  • Devils 6, Flyers 2: After three failed bids to get Martin Brodeur his 500th career win, the Devils finally provided him some margin of error. They played stingy defense and lit the lamp six times en route to an easy milestone win. Brodeur joins Patrick Roy as the only netminders with 500 wins. Dainius Zubrus got the party started and added an assist. As happy as the Devils are for Brodeur, they're probably happiest that it ended their own losing streak.

  • Rangers 4, Penguins 3 (OT): Everyone knows there's no point in coming back from a two-goal deficit if you're going to lose the game. The Rangers rallied from 2-0 down to take a 3-2 lead, but a bad-bounce goal forced the Blueshirts to play an extra session. Defenseman Jason Strudwick scored to make sure the Rangers' effort wasn't wasted. Michal Rozsival had the first two goals for New York.

  • Nuggets 115, Knicks 83: As if the Knicks needed another reason to mail in this finale of a five-game road trip. Friday's double-overtime loss to Sacramento provided the excuse this time, and the Knicks didn't show up in Denver. With efforts like this, the time may have come to set odds on Isiah Thomas' finishing the season as coach.

  • Heat 91, Nets 87: Note to Jason Kidd: When making a list of the teammates to pass the ball to when trailing by two, Jason Collins should be placed far from the top. Collins caught the pass and got fouled, but he bricked the two free throws. When Dwyane Wade unexpectedly did the same thing a few moments later, the Nets had another chance to tie the game. But Richard Jefferson missed a layup -- Miami's Udonis Haslem may have hit the rim -- and time ran out on the Nets. Lawrence Frank's players rallied after trailing by 10 at the half, but they still did their best to make sure Pat Riley sticks around through the All-Star break.

My bet is Isiah finishes the season. I think James Dolan is indeed that dumb.
