A Memorial Exhibit for Jeremy Blake, New Words from Theresa Duncan

200711blake.jpgThis summer, when Jeremy Blake walked into the Rockaway Beach surf, he left many with a lot of questions...and he left his life's work behind. His films, C-prints, drawings and paintings are now hanging in homage at his memorial exhibit at Kinz, Tillou, & Feigen. Opening last week and running through January 5th, the show will even include the incomplete piece he was still working on at the time of his death:

His sixth solo exhibition at Kinz, Tillou + Feigen was scheduled to showcase Blake's latest film "Glitterbest", a collaborative "portrait" of cultural impresario Malcolm McLaren, soon after its premier in a current solo exhibition of his narrated films at the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington D.C. However, "Glitterbest" was incomplete at the time of Blake's death. The memorial show at Kinz, Tillou + Feigen includes a selection of wall works, a retrospective of daily screenings of his 21 short animated films (a schedule of which is posted here), as well as documentation of his unfinished last film.
The soundtrack to the film was completed, but sadly The Sun reports that as a whole it "remains merely a visual framework." The rest of his videos are complete, however, and being screened each day. More details at the gallery's website.

As for Blake's girlfriend, Theresa Duncan (who committed suicide one week prior to Blake), her online outlet, The Wit of the Staircase, will have a new post up next month. According to the person who has been left in charge, "Theresa had left this post to appear automatically on this date (another will appear on New Year's Eve)."
