- Rangers 4, Devils 2: Given New Jersey's recent dominance over its cross-river rivals, Martin Brodeur's picking up his 500th win against Rangers would have seemed appropriate. Jaromir Jagr and Henrik Lunqvist had other ideas. Lundqvist stopped 22 shots and Jagr added a goal and an assist as the Rangers on the Prudential Center ice. Even defenseman Marc Staal got into the act. Jamie Langenbrunner had two goals for the home team, whose fans eagerly booed Scott Gomez whenever he got the puck. The former Devil had two assists. Brodeur's next crack at 500 will come against the Islanders on Friday. He's second all-time to Patrick Roy's 551.
- Clippers 84, Knicks 81: Stephon Marbury returned, did not start but didn't do much help his teammates out. He scored 13 points in 33 minutes, but the Knicks' fourth-quarter deficit was too much to overcome. Marbury missed a wide-open three that could have put his team in front with 40 seconds to go. To make matters worse, he then didn't get back on defense in time. The Knicks' nine-point third-quarter output didn't help matters. They're 0-2 on this trip -- and 2-5 overall. They'll face Sacramento and Denver before heading back to New York. Even with Marbury sounding a conciliatory tone, don't be surprised if he doesn't complete the trip.
- Celtics 91, Nets 66: At least the Nets don't regret not bringing Vince Carter back. They've looked sluggish without him. Richard Jefferson and Jason Kidd are fine, but without Carter the Nets could be in serious trouble. Given the way the Celtics are playing, however, a quick recovery to an ankle sprain might not have been enough. Jefferson, Kidd and Sean Williams were the only players to crack double figures.

tom, i think its important to mention it was staals first NHL career goal- for what MAY(one never knows) become one of the best defensemen the present NHL will see.
jamie langenbrunner had two goals, not two assists!!!! please correct.
Also, three of the four Ranger goals were scored by rookies (I think Dawes still technically counts), I can't remember the last time that happened in a Rangers game.

The home team's "fans" sounded more like MSG - was great hearing them give Marty the business in his own house.
I'm not sure if everyone realizes/appreciates the goalie rival triumvirate of Brodeur/Lundqvist/DiPietro. It's a pretty interesting time for all three teams with goalies.
Jersey's "recent dominance over its cross-river rivals" isn't so recent, since the Rangers have now won all three meetings between the two teams this season.
